What You Need to Know

Yeah yeah, we missed you too.

With the defensive-minded but slumping Bulls (and dysfunctional Hinrich) coming to town, Caron isn't throwing ketchup or honey onto

this game. Etan is coming back but Brendan Haywood still wants to start. After briefly canceling his ESPN chat, Gilbert shows up after all and says "being in the NBA is like being like a leaf on a tree" (more coverage in Gilbertology), plus Gilbert's blog is updated. And the Wiz PR staff is now tracking Gil's last-second shots, many of which can be seen here. And here he's ranked No. 5 in the MVP derby.

After yesterday's pounding, the Caps officially owned the Flyers this year and nudge their "Respect Ranking" upward. (How does Esche say Philly played terrific?) Ovie, as mentioned here, is, with Crosby, an all-star starter, pleasing his most ardent voter. The Caps extend their relationship with Hershey, which produced three AHL all-stars. Here's some positive press for The Fifth Line, who made Joseph White's AP story (no Bog credit, sadly). And Ted Leonsis praises bloggers and reminds us of our declining circulation. (OFB, much love, but stop gloating. How's my kid gonna pay for college?)

The defensive-minded Local No. 1 Terps get ready for ACC play, with Rick Snider calling them essentially 2-2 "in the preseason" and Greivis Vasquez--who starts because of his emotions--still all mad about the BC loss. Coach K says he never reprimanded Va. Tech's Zabian Dowdell, Seth Greenberg is tired of hearing about Duke, Karl Hobbs says Local No. 4 GW is "clearly" overachieving, an urgent-feeling UVA--which is 1-25 all-time against top-ranked teams--gets ready for new-No. 1 UNC, which Dave Leitao says is clearly the best team in the country. No. 8 William & Mary is generating excitement and confidence, Billy Lange says Local No. 9 Navy has "played some really tough competition" (snort), Jim Larranaga says Gary Neal will be drafted, No. 11 American loses again, MAAC contender Loyola downs league heavyweight Siena that , which remains defiant, UMBC loses, and Liberty beats Radford. Also, former UVA football coach George Welsh is charged with DUI, and with help from Florida the Hokies finish with the No. 1 scoring defense.

And longtime National fan favorite Andre Dawson doesn't get into the Hall. Cal Ripken, D.C. figure or not? Wasn't sure. Left him out of this. Ravens, too.

As a native, I'd call Cal a DC figure. We grew up watching him, before we were able to understand why we weren't allowed to have a team in DC.

He has also done a remarkable job of staying out of the Angelos Orioles mess, even as he garners our sympathy for the way Angelos treated him. A lot of us stopped caring about the Orioles as Angelos destroyed the Oriole Way, so we'll always be sentimental about Cal.

And we'd take him over Guzman in a heartbeat.

man cmon bogman, Andre Dawson is not a Nats fan favorite. he is an Expos fan favorite (and probably did deserve enshrinement). Dawson belongs to Montreal. Frank howard and Walter Johnson belong to us. what's next, calling it Reagan Airport? where's the civic pride.

Dan, love the Bog, but could you start providing a few more links in your posts?

C'mon Mr. Dan. You didn't get credit in the AP/Yahoo story but how many people can say that they have an entire Barra Brava song dedicated to/about just them?

...We love you Steinberg...oh yes we do...
