Raven Hearts Wizard

Sorta sounds like something a middle-school girl with dyed black hair might write in her notebook, no?

Anyhow, this is about Ravens tight end Daniel Wilcox, whom I met at yesterday's WNBA all-star game press conference. Wilcox said he was there because he's close friends with Mystics President Sheila Johnson, and that whenever she asks him to make an appearance, "no arguing anything, I'm there." He thus plans to go to several Mystics games this season.

Anyhow, him being there allowed me to learn something interesting: Baltimore Ravens Daniel Wilcox and Ed Reed attended Gilbert's 25th birthday party! Talk about cross-sport-greater-greater-Washington-DC-area synergy. Why did Unsilent Majority and Mister Irrelevant never make note of this? I asked Wilcox for his impressions.

"Awesome," he said. "Best party I've ever been to."

Another Gilbert party attendee. (Chris Gardner - AP)

(Although when I asked how he wound up at the party, he said he "just wanted to show some love" to Gilbert, and he talked about how he's very big into community events. I believe he was being genuine; he was at a WNBA press conference, after all, and he thanked me profusely for covering the Ravens' playoff game last weekend, even after I explained to him that I was assigned to go and had no choice. But regardless, I'm just not sure Gilbert's party qualifies as a community event.)

(And certain AP sportswriters would have me cease and desist on Gilbert birthday party coverage. My response: no.)

(And did you note the part in Gilbert's blog yesterday where he was asked why the Wizards did better during Monday's 1 pm start than they had at their last 1 pm start?

"You know, we didn't come from a party two nights before," he wrote/said. "Maybe that had something to do with it."

Yeah. Maybe.)

(Also, check out this dated Peter Schrager FoxSports 2007 predictions column. Although I'm highly insulted I wasn't asked to participate, he did sort of nail this one, in the not-so-bold 2007 predictions category:

Gilbert Arenas does something really, really weird -- prompting bloggers the world over to write about it.

Perhaps that will come to pass. Bloggers do love their Gilbert. For example, here are The Postmen, from yesterday, deliriously celebrating their Gil-Zeroes.)
