Seth Greenberg on Being No. 1

So Virginia Tech Coach Seth Greenberg called me back to comment on being No. 1 in this week's Local Poll. Maybe I abused my nominal association with The Washington Post in calling him. Maybe he'll never call me back again. I'm guessing it might have been a more cheerful interview had I reached him after this week's Poll was released, but before the Hokies went to Florida State. Regardless, his thoughts follow, and many thanks to Seth for his participation. Poll voters won't forget something like that.

Seth Greenberg: "We're Number 1." (Gene Dalton -- Roanoke Times Via AP)

On being Local No. 1: "I'd rather have it at the end of the season than now. We're sort of the flavor of the week, but to maintain the flavor of the week you have to win games. It's nice that people think we're making progress, but in this league it's all about what you did yesterday."

On whether the Hokies measure themselves against regional schools: "Not really. We're just worried about our program. Our biggest thing is worrying about Virginia Tech. We really just put all our energies into worrying about our program."

On whether Virginia Tech should be considered part of the D.C. hoops scene: "Oh yeah. Without a doubt. The D.C. Area is a big part of our alumni base. We look at D.C. and Maryland as being part of our area."

On whether this year's postseason summary will include the team's Local Poll achievements: "Right at the top."

Big ups to Greenberg for being a good sport. It won't help in the poll however.
