The Suns: Possibly a Bit Hairy

Well, that didn't take long. I heard back from a Suns PR staffer, who told me that as of yesterday Steve Nash was still unshaven, but that he couldn't speak of his facial hair status this morning. I really should have gone to the morning shootaround to check beard lengths, but I missed it.

Off the top of his head, the PR staffer told me that Sean Marks, at the least, was still going forward with the beard plan, and possibly a few more players. But he also confessed that the spiritual center of the Beard Brigade actually is located off the court.

"To be honest, it was really most of the trainers, it really wasn't a lot of the guys," basketball communications manager Dustin Krugel told me. "The trainers are the most superstitious of the bunch."

Like, during the Suns' earlier winning streak, Nash gave a blazer to head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson, and the Suns played well, and then Nelson wore the blazer virtually every day until the Suns lost.

Anyhow, if you want, you can go to the 12 News Web site and click on the "Steve Nash not a huge fan of his 'lucky' beard link." It's riveting stuff. A reporter tries asking Nash if he's superstitious.

"I'm not, no," he says.

Whoa. Anyhow, all you beard hecklers out there, start preparing your best Sean Marks lines.

Oh, and just so I can quote PR people from both teams in one item, Wiz PR Manager Brian Sereno just told me that the team has issued more than 300 credentials for tonight's game; the media contingent will probably end up being about 33 percent larger than for a typical regular season game.

"Call it a 'playoff-sized media throng'," Sereno suggested.

Done.
