Caron and Gilbert on the Blazers Game

Just to emphasize the disconnect.....

Here's Caron after practice this morning, discussing Sunday's game with Portland, during which Gilbert will supposedly score 50 points:

"You know what, we're just gonna focus on the Portland Trail Blazers against the Washington Wizards. We're gonna go out there and just attack it like that. We're gonna play team basketball, and whatever happens, happens. We're just trying to win the game. We're not gonna have no distractions, we're just gonna play basketball and win the game.

"You know, obviously he made his statements, and it is what it is, but we just want to win games. That's our main goal, to win games....We're just gonna go out there as a team and win games....Coach is saying the main thing is to win games. We're not gonna feed into anything else, any extra hype or anything. We're just gonna go out there and play the Portland Trail Blazers and try to win the game."

And here, to repeat myself, is Gilbert on his blog:

"It's so funny how a game nobody ever thought about is going to become a watched game. Even if you don't watch the game, you're going to look at the boxscore to see what happened.

My last one o'clock game was 51 against Utah. So I'm feeling pretty frisky....

It's going to be more of a fun one because at the end of the day, they really do not want me to get 50....

It's just funny because if I put a number out there, it's like, 'We don't want him to get that number by any means necessary.'

Nate's a tough guy so I know that there's going to be a lot or elbows and a lot of double teams so that will just leave stuff open for everybody else."

All in all, the two guys seem to have a slightly different approach. But I agree that, whether or not anyone can actually see it, Sunday's meeting has become a watched game.

actually, there is no contradiction. just hype. mission accomplished if everybody else feeds into it and they win the game.

He could score 100 and nobody would see it. Gotta love those blackout agreements...

I'm going to enjoy this game for lots of reasons.

First, I want to see whether Etan is glaring at Haywood.

Second, I want to see if the crowd eggs on Gilbert.

Third, I want to see if Eddie and the team eggs on Gilbert.

Fourth, I want to see if Gilbert uses the game to warm-up for the All-Star Three-Point Contest.

You know, I heard the audio on Caron (from, for those words, and it's clear that he's trying very hard to be diplomatic. Words aren't coming as naturally as they normally do for Caron. One gets the sense he might be talking to Gilbert.

I'll be waiting patiently for the 2-hour long YouTube vid from section 402.
