Local Poll Updates
In lieu of the link dump at the beginning of the day, what say we try this?
Local No. 1 Georgetown earns praise after that win last night. Juan Tello Palacios says the Hoyas probably have the best frontcourt he's seen. Rick Pitino says the Hoyas would win 9 out of 10 against Louisville. More importantly, he also says that the Hoyas have two lottery picks and are a top 7 or top 8 team in the country. Wow, is Hibbert really a lottery pick? The oft-cited NBADraft.net has Jeff Green No. 20 on its board, for whatever that's worth, while DraftExpress has Hibbert 13th and Green 33rd in 2008, which seems ridiculous. ESPN's Chad Ford has Green 18th and Hibbert 46th.
Fans of Local No. 2 Virginia are urging you to vote for Sean Singletary for the Cousy Award (top male PG in Division I, II or III). He's the only local guy on the list of finalists.
Local No. 4 VCU AD Norwood Teague (how has this not come up in pithy comments?) is already talking contract restructuring with Anthony Grant. Although I'd dispute the story's claim that the Rams have been "as high as 28th" in the polls this year. The polls go to 25. Then they sorta end. No team has ever been 12th in the Local 11.
Local No. 6 GW is planning a "Buff Out" for Saturday night's sold-out game with Xavier, which could not possibly sound stupider. Because of chilly weather, student fans will not be permitted to sleep out overnight, and will only be allowed to line up seven hours before tip-off. Violators will be driven to Burr Gymnasium for Del. State-Howard. There is also a pre-game barbecue.
The beat reporter for Local No. 7 Old Dominion quotes the CAA commissioner saying that the Monarchs are "on the board," that they're in at-large contention. Wonder what committee members will think about that JMU fiasco. The beat writer also blogs the Monarchs' clothes, which I appreciated.
