Nats Spring News
I was supposed to go to Florida. But I'm not. So, instead, I'll just steal content from Nats bloggers.
1) Via Banks of the Anacostia, I was reminded of The Nook Logan Chronicles ("It's All About Nook," apparently). I sort of get why Gilbert Arenas has his own blog. The reasons for a Nook Logan-centered blog are less obvious to me. But since I've probably blogged more about Nook than any other Nat, I shouldn't complain. Plus, he has brothers named Geovannia and Ja-Mes, and, as the Detroit Free Press reported, the origins of his nickname are awesome.
Actually, Logan was named Exavier Prente by his mother when he was born Nov. 28, 1979, but his mother, Glenda "Mickey" Logan and everyone else have been calling him Nook for as long as she can remember.
"The nickname? It came from my girlfriend, who had just had a baby when I was pregnant with Nook," says Mickey Logan. "She had one of those NUK pacifiers, and when the baby was crying she'd say, 'You need your NUK, NUK?' I didn't want to take that nickname, so when I had Nook, I said, 'Hey, Nook, Nook.'"
I would just ask the Nook Logan chronicler to blog with more frequency.
2) Via Capitol Punishment and others, I learned that (and you might not want to proceed if you're at work) Nationals Pride located a photo of Felipe Lopez's wife in FHM. Her name, of course, is Jennifer Lopez. Which led to this unsatisfying item in the Dayton Daily News two springs ago:
Some heads quickly turned when a couple of Reds officials talked about leaving tickets to Wednesday's game for Jennifer Lopez.
No, not that Jennifer Lopez.
Jennifer is the first name of infielder Felipe Lopez's wife.
"We hear it all the time; she gets kidded about it constantly," Lopez said.
Seriously, Dayton Daily News, that's the best you could manage from a baseball wife who poses without much clothing in men's magazines and is named Jennifer Lopez? Plus don't forget this Felipe exchange, from MLB.com:
Do you have any bad habits?
Probably staying up really late at night after the games, watching TV. I watch scary movies. That's what I watch. I saw one the other night on Lifetime. Those movies are pretty good.
Well, my wife got me used to it. I like them. Of course, I don't watch the girly ones. Just the ones that are good.
And Reds blogger Red Hot Mama posted an extensive look at Felipe's many tattoos, which include a dragon that protects him from evil. Maybe someone should start a Felipe Lopez blog ("It's All About Felipe").
3) And, as blogger after blogger has mentioned, the Nats are seeking "part-time, seasonal staff to perform as the famous Racing Presidents." You must be between 5'7 and 6'6, which means Daniel Snyder and Jon Rauch are both totally out.
