Greetings from Tip-Off Town! (Otherwise known as Winston-Salem)

Greetings from Winston-Salem, or as all the signs around town say, "Welcome to Tip Off Town!" Jackson Auto Worx, just down the road from Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (hereafter referred to as "LJVMC", or "LVJMC" or "LJMVC", depending on the quality of my typing), has gotten into the spirit of the week, with a "March Madness Sale": $10 off a power steering flush! (I won't be taking advantage, as my rental bears a closer resemblance to a small tomato than to a car, and I fear it wouldn't survive the procedure.)

On tap today are open practices and press conferences for our teams: Texas Tech, Boston College, Belmont, Georgetown, Michigan State, Marquette, Eastern Kentucky and North Carolina.

Here are some of the things I'm looking forward to today:

Bob Knight's press conference (11:35 a.m.). Should be entertaining, though it might be too much to ask for a repeat of his Big 12 tournament presser

Listening to Al Skinner and John Thompson III, who are going to seem even more low-key and mild than usual, since they will follow Knight and Belmont's voluble Rick Byrd to the podium. (One of Byrd's golf buddies is country music star Vince Gill, and Byrd has even appeared in a couple of Gill's videos.)

Patrick Ewing Jr. during lay-up/dunk lines

I'll check back in later today, after Georgetown takes the podium (1:35-2:10 p.m.) and the court (2:15-2:55 p.m.).
