More Shots at the Wizards

Just lining up the doubters, so their weak-kneed soul-crunching doubt can be packaged up neatly in one blog for Jim Gray come NBA Finals time. Here's Paul Ladewski from the Daily Southtown:

In the event they advance to Round 2, the Bulls would meet the winner of the series between the Toronto Raptors and the Wizards, the Nos. 3 and 6 seeds, respectively.

The Raptors would be prohibitive favorites in the match-up, because with injured starters Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Wizards qualify as one of the worst playoff teams in recent history.

Here's Carla Peay from

Without two of their big three, the Wizards have lost four consecutive games, and barring a miracle, are headed for another first round exit.

Here's John Reid, in the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

Without their top players, the Wizards aren't likely to get past the first round.

Here's Dime:

Will they win another game before golfing season is officially underway?

And here's John Hollinger:

Much as the bottom half of the East is dying to be the no. 6 seed and face Toronto, all the teams at the top of the East are now hoping to draw a neutered Wizards team in Round 1. Thus, a no. 2 Chicago team would happily allow New Jersey to pass Washington, bumping the Wizards down to the no. 7 spot and giving the Bulls a virtual bye in the opening round.

A virtual bye! Ha! His point, though, is worth watching; that if the Bulls have somehow locked up the two seed by the season finale against New Jersey, then they might well tank against the Nets. Which means if the Nets win tonight, you could almost consider them 1.5 games back of the Wiz (giving them an extra win in the finale). Which means if they win three of their other four games (not a huge stretch), the Wiz would need to go at least 3-2 down the stretch to hang on to the sixth seed, for what that's worth.

Oh, and here are Raptors fans attempting to come up with slogans in the event their team faces Washington. As Jose Calderon is my witness, I'm not making these up:

Take a Whiz on the Wiz

SPOILER ALERT: Harry Potter gets eaten by a Raptor

Redskins suck, and the Wizards are not going anywhere in the playoffs. Don't even get me started on the Nationals... you guys will lose them soon enough just like you lost two other Baseball teams.

This one lacks creativity but is based in harsh reality: Anyone who is good on your team is injured - - expect to be swept.
