Tiger Speaks

Tiger Woods just had a press conference at Congressional Country Club. It was packed. The Washington Post's various companies alone provided probably 104 or 105 people. I'll write more on this later, but for now, some quotes from a surprisingly quotable Tiger Woods. He said he had strep throat. Maybe he was drugged into becoming quotable. He's hosting a tournament here in July, in case you forgot. Anyhow....

On whether he's gotten any baby name suggestions: "Oh, dude. I'm from Southern California, sorry. It's been unreal. Anything and everything. I've gotten more advice...I get a lot of advice for how to play golf out in the gallery, but this has been infinitely more. And everyone has stories...sometimes a little more grotesque than I prefer."

On how he's so perfect and bloody wonderful and charitable, and whether this means he'll one day run for President: "Hell no. No, no, no, no. No. No. Uh-uh. Next."

On whether he's playing: Yeah, he's playing, unless the kid arrives.

On what he'd do if he gets the call on 18 that the kid is coming: "I'd have to play fast, wouldn't I?"

On recruiting a good field in July on short notice: "Maybe the field will get better as it gets close, but right now it's a little bit difficult."

On specifics: Phil probably not, Vijay maybe, Ernie no.

On par: "All the players can blame me for the par 70."

On Congressional: "You can't really get a better place. Ultimately it would be great to have a home here, but it's up to the management and the board. We would like to come back here for many years."

On future locations, if it were up to him: "Right here."

Ok, second choice: "Right here."

On the rough: We want to get that thing up. I know you guys don't like it, but you're already done playing. [The media event was today.] We need it up, we need a challenge."

On his time management skills: "Thankfully I don't sleep much. There are 24 hours in the day, but I figure if you get three or four you're good to go on tto he next day. Hence the strep throat."
