Gilbert Talks About His Bike

See below for the item about Gilbert and his video gamers and their tournament this weekend. Here are the other nuggets from my brief chat with Gilbert yesterday.

1) He attended yesterday's pre-draft workouts for Wiz prospects. He said he stood in the corner and watched. I asked whether he talked with the media. "Why would they want to talk to me?" he responded. "I'm not getting drafted."

No shirt: fine. No helmet: less fine. (By Jonathan Newton - TWP)

2) About his bike rides....yes, it is a mountain bike. And no, he doesn't wear a helmet. "If I fall, I want to fall the right way," he told me, "like an American."

Bike-helmet advocates, I'll grant you that he should be wearing a helmet and that this isn't a laughing matter, if you'll grant me that his was a humorous response. But seriously, Wizards, put a helmet on that guy. We have enough to worry about.

As for his being recognized, "every time I push the pedal down or up, someone honks or says what's up," he told me.

3) About his commercials....He just got back from L.A., where he was shooting a commercial for EA Sports with Kevin Durant. He said it will start airing about a week before the draft. Durant's "like the new kid on the block; I'm the older teacher, the big brother, daddy type," Gilbert told me. "Everything he does is just not good enough yet."

I don't exactly understand the concept, but somehow they're making fun of the 2007 version of the EA game, which Gil said "was just bad."

4) I asked what was new with his modeling agency plans.

"I put that on hold," he said. "I've got some other things going on. I had that deal with Vitamin Water; when they sold it, I'm going to see how much money I made. It was a great business move on my part. I think I had like two percent of $4.2 billion; I think that's $80 million. But who knows yet."

For the love of Science, please wear a helmet, please. I'm begging.

I guess he can take his $80 million and pay for the best brain surgeon when he falls like an "American."

And remember to tell him, "Crack is whack"

Gilbert is not just a great player, a franchise player, 2nd Team All-NBA in fact...Gilbert is a truly entertaining individual whom even the most casual NBA fan would love to watch and listen to.

Wizards better hold on to him.

For goodness sakes, he's riding a bike not a motorcycle. Yes, he can get a head injury riding a bike. Funny how those of us over 35 managed to survive growing up. And stop hating on his money!

Arenas is a geat player, and it seems like he has a great personality, but it seems like he's changing into the typical business oriented nba player eg; opting out of his contract.
