Today's Top Five: Richard Simmons Loves the Nats

1) This wasn't immediately obvious to me, but evidently the banning of junk food in the Nats' clubhouse signals some sort of Richard Simmons connection. D.C. Pro Sports Report made the connection right away, as did The Nationals Enquirer, which noted the following: "Manny Acta announces mandatory Sweatin' to the Oldies team workout every other Saturday. Ray King unavailable for comment."

2) Dedicated to the proposition that no sports team can rightly do without its own blog, I present Go Figueroa, a Bowie Baysox blog, penned by Local Hoops Poll voter Robert Lintott. Here's his post on the Liz no-hitter.

3) Probably only in D.C. would we be handed the following solution for a pitcher, Levale Speigner, who has not been very good but cannot be freely sent to AAA: encourage him to run for President. This has something to do with Fred Thompson, the Nats' ownership stake in MASN, federal equal-time rules and Howard the Duck. The blog in question, Federal Baseball, also links to FEC filings, something else unlikely to happen in, say, Cincinnati.

4) From last week, but really, someone on eBay is selling empty Washington Nationals beer bottles at a mark-up from their mint-condition, filled-with-beer price? This means that the monetary value of Bud Light is actually less than zero, which might be true in the abstract, but good luck convincing people at the ballpark. This was via Deuce of Davenport, which also found on eBay a certificate offering a Doctorate Degree in Nationals Baseball. Presumably past degree holders include Dr. Schickendantz.

5) Should have known that Adrian Fenty would show up for a Washington Bayhawks game, bearing a lacrosse stick, at some point. Photos at Off Wing Opinion.

...Especially for a game that -- while totally thrilling and great fun to watch -- had an attendance of less than 1500, compared to 4200-plus out at GMU.
