Report: Navarro Will Not Play for Wizards
True Hoop, continuing to be all reporter-like, is reporting on the Juan Carlos Navarro situation:
One of Navarro's representatives, Alex Saratsis (he works with Henry Thomas at CSMG), tells me that despite the hope that something would be worked out, there is now no chance Navarro will play in Washington, owing to simple salary cap mathematics.
So, that means the Wizards are fielding offers for Navarro from interested teams like Miami and Memphis.
That process, however, is not going quickly enough for team officials in Barcelona.
Saratsis tells me that this morning, Barcelona officials declared they would only let Navarro out of his contract with a reasonable buyout if a trade is completed by August 3. As in, the end of next week.
All the speculation of late has been about the Heat, with stealth Pat Riley meetings in Spain and all that, but this was today, from the Miami Herald, concerning a possible trade with the Wiz:
Meanwhile, Washington has shown little interest in accepting a Heat draft pick for FC Barcelona combo guard Juan Carlos Navarro.
Assuming "The Washington Post" is Spanish for "The Washington Post," JCN's Web site is actually citing The Washington Post, which is weird, considering The Post's beat writer insists on referring to JCN as JNC, perhaps confusing him with Redskins Beat Writer JLC, who may be a fine blogger but can't run the point in the NBA. I was hoping for at least one JCN-in-DC press conference, so we could discuss Spanish cheese, but you can't have everything.

What a week for Steinbog to be out of town. I wanted the guy to try to cover the Goodman Summer League at Barry Farms.
Rumors say Gil will face Melo on Sunday with a few others in tow.
How can the Post not cover this.... Come on!

Come on steiny, you'll be back by sunday right?

I'm back, I'm back. Melo vs. Gil, really?
Posted by: Dan Steinberg | July 26, 2007 9:19 AM | Report abuse
"Gil vs. Melo' That's what they say steiny.
Fellows on the RealGM board say Gil has been playing down there, looking about halfspeed. His team is usually the Alldaz ('all days'). Not sure who is playing with him, but the Alldaz are scheduled to play this sunday at 7PM, and Melo and Gil are both said to be pencilled in, along with other possible NBA stars on the hush-hush.
Steph Marbury has already stopped by to play and give out his cheapazz free sneakers. Track down your leads via the Goodman league site. Call Miles Rawls.
I'd love to see if you could contact Gil and do a ride-along for a full day game story. Otherwise watch Mike Wise steal the story and the exclusive Gil Bio book rights... the snake.
Steiny, you got to do this. No one else on the WPost staff has the cojones.

August 3rd? Great, they're going to back Ern into a corner until he trades the rights to JCN for a mustache comb and season tickets to EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
