CP's Birthday Bash

A real dearth on Portis 26th birthday weekend reportage, especially after the reporting monstrosity that was Gilbert Arenas's 25th. Here's the one thing I've been able to confirm: Portis and about 75 guests showed up at Cafe Zola's "Ultra Room," on the second floor of the Spy Museum, on Friday night. They had what restaurant manager John Coco described as a "wonderful four course dinner, with wine and champagne." The main course was roast chicken breast with truffled spaetzle and wax beans. There was a birthday cake and parlor games and a Portis roast. The event began around 9, and guests began departing shortly before midnight for the after party at Posh. The price tag was somewhere in the high teens, which, next to Gilbert's onslaught, is quite modest.

The Reliable Source is on vacation, so the only post-birthday news I found was on the completely scurrilous Lipstick Alley, which says the celebrations also extended to the Kennedy Center. Nothing in that summary can be repeated here, for reasons of taste, and I have no idea whether any of it's true, but it's an entertaining enough read.

I should note that The Reliable Source reported late last month that Portis was ordering a custom-made birthday suit. Reported RS:

Portis is uncommon in two respects: At 5-11, 223 pounds, he could buy off the rack, and (unlike a lot of pros) he has "very good taste," said Matt Landsberg, owner of D.C.'s Eric Finn Custom Clothiers. "He said, 'I don't want anything over the top. I want something elegant and classy.' "

Most of Landsberg's customers are CEOs and lawyers; the bespoke suits start at $1,100 and go up to $4,000. He met Portis last year and created a suit for his 25th birthday -- a black tone-on-tone wool. This year Portis is giving himself ( shhhh-- it's a surprise) a two-tone stripe suit.

So clearly something was gonna go down. Also, the Covering the Redskins blog reported that Portis was not anticipating birthdayish splendorific generosity from his teammates:

Asked what his teammates are getting him, Portis said "these are the worst teammates in the world. I never got anything from Santana except what I won in a card game we weren't supposed to be playing when we were freshmen. Sean Taylor never gave me anything. Rocky nothing. I even lobbied to bring those guys here."

Needless to say, I'm anticipating at least 497 dirty looks from serious media persons when I show up at practice tomorrow afternoon to attempt to flesh out this account.
