Gilbert Arenas Crushes Haywood

Yo Gil, tank this. (By John McDonnell - TWP)

The USA Today's Roscoe Nance is a nice guy, but golly, if I got the quote he got from Gilbert regarding Brendan, you can bet your Eddie Jordan Mini Bobblehead it would have been the very first sentence of my story, and not some uncommented-upon throwaway line at the end. Check this out:

"No matter if Etan is the starter or the backup, he's going to give you the same kind of energy and the same kind of play," Arenas explained. "Brendan will give you three-four (strong) games (off the bench) because he's mad, then he's going to tank it."

So sure, we all kind of knew that, but for the team's superstar to come out and say that to the nation's newspaper? Should be good times in the locker room this year, what with the veterans promising to ruin Andray Blatche with Thomas Circle jokes, and DeShawn liable to fall asleep at a moment's notice and not notice his surroundings such as basketball games or gun battles, and Gilbert having already laid one down on Brendan, and Big Oily poised to set up a Varenyky cart in the training room.

See also: Gilbert's Q&A with Slam Whitaker, which authentically includes Gilbert looking to the ceiling and saying "J**** C****," which has really been his thing lately. Last line is the best:

SLAM: Was it strange asking [Penny Hardaway] for his autograph?

GIL: Well, it was amazing, because I put a blog in about him being my favorite player, and he called me. I was like, yeah, right, this isn't Penny Hardaway. And then we started talking, and he was like, "Well, if you ever need anything, let me know." I was like, alright, how about sending me about 14 of your jerseys?

Got the over/under on how many games until Brendan Haywood demands a trade and the Wizards Insider laughs him out?

Like literally, writes a headline of "Haywood Wants Out" and the body contains nothing but LOL's.

You do know that Capitals' training camp is still going on and the Bullets' camp hasn't started yet, no?

One and done with coverage from Kettler?

WTEM doesn't even have the Caps games anymore... and they are even there today.

He wasn't putting Haywood down. Hey Gil just spoke the truth. Etan brings it all the time regardless of whether he is starting or coming off the bench.I mean come on, everyone (fans) have said the same thing countless times. I think his comments as usual are priceless.

If only we could transplant Etan's energy and enthusiasm into Haywood's taller body....

If we could've transplanted skill (and heart) we would've done it a couple years ago with Kwame. oh, and little girl hands.

wow who really cares? everything Gilbert said was the truth. Haywood sucks. its not like the wizards ask him to do alot. just play D and rebound. not go shot fade aways from the foul line. and the comment about DeShawn was a really stupid one and uncalled one.
get a life...

thanks josh. that comment about deshawn was irrellavent. when someone gets in trouble they get dogged by the media, definitely the "black man" now im not tryin to go OJ and bring race into this and say that he is racists, im just saying give the man a break. he was not in it so y put him in it. I'd rather him be sleep than be involved. once ur name is involved in something ur pointed at no matter what. sometimes i wonder if u guys have anything better to do. and if ur a columnists in washington one would think u will have a little favortism for the team, so y would u start anymore more drama among the team by dwelling on his comments about brendan, and saying that there will be problems in the locker room will only "make others believe in it". can we start the season on the right foot guys. blatche got in trouble. we know that. and bush had a grudge on sadaam and used bin laden as a distraction, we know that. AND? we know we sucked in the playoffs, gil and caron was hurt, and haywood and etan does not get along, move on! GO WIZ

Gil is right. Thomas has the stuff for the center position. I thought you put you best players on the floor. I would like to see Blatche get a lot of time this year. Go Wiz.

If you use Etan off the bench, it's more time for him to write poetry. We all win.
