On the Jansen Injury
Some notes from offensive linemen about the Jansen injury that didn't make it in my story about Heyer and the offensive line:
Randy Thomas on the injury: "It's just like, 'Ok, we've got to keep going.' Then you're thinking in the back of your head, 'This is my boy Jansen, and he's down.'...You kind of keep it where your mind's in the game, but you're thinking in the back of your head, "This guy's done for the year, and now I've got a dang rookie next to me,' you know what I mean."
Thomas on how he feels physically: "How I look? I'm just kidding. It's a blessing to play this game. You see with Jansen going down; it's vicious. And to be able to come back and play each year, you've just got to be thankful, that's all."
Thomas on whether he's 100 percent: "Nah. Never in my life again be 100 percent. Close to 95, you know? On game day, I'm close to it."
Casey Rabach on the injury: "Jon's gonna work his butt off and get back and be ready for us next year."
Rabach on what Jansen said on the cart. "It hurt really bad. No, it was pretty emotional, he was pretty emotional. We were all over there, and I'm gonna give him a call as soon as I get out of here. I heard when he got in [the locker room] he asked if we made the field goal. He was still thinking about us out there."
