Jim Fassel Drinks Decaf

Since I arrived in Arizona, I've been eating one meal a day and spending the rest of my time having panic attacks and watching in the mirror to see if my eye was actually twitching or not, which is cool. This morning I awoke at 5:30 local time and figured I could sneak in a second meal, so I went to the Einstein Bagels inside the Hyatt, which is coaching central.

And who should be ahead of me in line, ordering coffee and then spilling a significant amount of that coffee, but Jim Fassel, who immediately struck me as perhaps the nicest man in the world. Explain to me again why the Skins world is already attempting to fire the nicest man in the world with a career record above .500 and a Super Bowl berth on his resume?

Anyhow, Fassel, who lives in Scottsdale, very nicely declined to address the Redskins stuff, as he's done all week, because he said he's gotten more than 100 interview requests and he doesn't want to play favorites. He also canceled his previously scheduled Mike and Mike radio gig so the rest of us wouldn't get insulted.

With the Skins job off the table, conversation-wise, I instead asked him about coffee (and what I wouldn't have done for a piece of fine Idiazabal to do some early AM cheese tastings).

Dan: "How many cups a day?"

Jim Fassel: "Plenty. But I drink decaf."

Who the hell drinks decaf?

I bet he enjoys non-alcoholic beer too.

Now I definitely don't want him to be coach.
