Mason Homecoming: Pie and [No] Mechanical Bull

Homecoming week has already started at George Mason, and it's hard to decide when the pinnacle will arrive. With the mechanical bull that the Fairfax Social Club has promised to bring to the pre-game tailgate? The basketball shooting competition, in conjunction with New Line Cinema, complete with "Semi Pro" related prizes? The Mason-sponsored pie-eating competition? The lip sync competition? The post-game fireworks at Mason pond?

[TRAGIC UPDATE: Now being told no to the mechanical bull due to safety concerns. Like a mechanical knife to my mechanical heart.]

Oh yeah, and there's a basketball game, with Local No. 4 Mason facing UNC Wilmington--a team that has won seven of nine and already has one win over Mason--for second place in the CAA. I could hardly be more excited (primarily, let's be honest, about the pie-eating and the mechanical bull).

(You might remember that there was some mild homecoming-related controversy a year ago, but all that's in the past and now we'll all eat our pecan pies and decorate our block-party spots together and lip sync to Aretha together, thanks very much.)
