Mystics Take Langhorne

Will Laura Harper be next? (By Toni L. Sandys - TWP)

With Crystal Langhorne projected to be a mid-first rounder, and the Mystics picking sixth, the stage was set for the dramatic selection of perhaps the most decorated player in Terps history, who will now slide a few miles downtown to play for an appreciative home crowd. I can only imagine the bedlam at the official draft party inside the Greene Turtle when Langhorne's name was announced. There's no bedlam quite like the first round of the WNBA draft bar-party local-kid-selection bedlam.

Of course, two of the Mystics' current stars are named Alana Beard and Monique Curry. Both went to Duke. What was it that Langhorne said about Duke last month? Oh yeah.

"It's Duke, come on now," she said, when asked why Terps fans were booing the Blue Devils. "It started with men's basketball. You know, everybody hates Duke, everyone. It's not just Maryland. Everybody does. It just festered and moved to our little program, too."

That ought to make for a fun welcome-to-the-team breakfast.
