Chris Cooley's Wedding Registry
1) I'm supposed to be off today, and don't feel like spending the time to find a better blog item.
2) It could spur Chris to pen hilarious tales of wedding preparations on his blog, because, let's be honest, there's a zero percent chance that he wanted to register for a Footed Cake Platter With Dome, an octet of Napkin Rings, a Reflection Centerpiece or a five-piece set of Martha Stewart Ceramic Bowls. Maybe the 101 Martinis recipe book. Maybe.
3) Back to Leitch vs. Bissinger. When Will talked about humanizing athletes, through pictures of beer bongs and whatever else, and Buzz replied "I may be 50, but I'm not that stupid," I took mild offense. I'm certainly not winning any Pulitzers through tales of Kudu-hunting Lithuanians, cheap NBA or NHL haircuts or hockey coaches eating lunch at the food court with their kids, but yeah, part of the idea actually IS to make these people a little more human, in some trivial, humorous, non-Pulitzer way. And so the fact that Cooley is registered for a bunch of towels and sheets and candles and punch bowls and other crap he doesn't really want or care about at Crate & Barrel and Macy's--exactly like I was four years ago--has to humanize the dude in a way that "one game at a time" quotes never could.
Of course, Cooley has done plenty to humanize himself over the past month, and he hardly needs my assistance, and "Chris Cooley Uses Towels!" is probably not headline news, and they don't seem to have registered for any lingerie, and so I'm really just trafficking off his name to get an easy blog post. So to make it up for him, I just ordered him an Apex cheese plane w/ wood handle, for $2.95, plus shipping. There's nothing in the world like cracking open a wheel of Comte and planing off a taste right from the middle.
