Cleveland Still Loves DeShawn
You know how the home crowd in the Verizon Center is often too quiet? And how the desperate scoreboard operators thus fill their screen with images sure to provoke hate, such as the Cowboys logo or pictures of Duke players? Especially when the visiting team is on the free-throw line?
Well, they do the same thing in Cleveland. During Game 5 of this year's playoff series, for example, The Q game ops people put up the Yankees logo, causing involuntary booing noises to pour out of the mouths of Clevelanders.
So now it's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semis, and the Celtics are on the line, and whose face shows up on the big screen? Yes, he whose face cannot be felt, the one and only DeShawn Stevenson. I'm telling you, his marketing manager deserves a raise.
SI's Jack McCallum may be an NBA Insider, but he could not possibly be more incorrect when he wrote this: "After the Cavs' series-clinching Game 6 win, after Stevenson had been returned to the NBA obscurity he so richly deserves and Arenas sent back to his blog...." Sorry Jack, but DeShawn is never again heading back to obscurity. Not when Cleveland fans are booing him during a series against the Celtics.
Elsewhere in DeShawn:
* Celtics fans took up the "overrated" chant at LeBron earlier in this series, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer credited DeShawn with the inspiration.
* This video (after the jump, via StetSports) is so amazing for so many reasons, but chief among them was DeShawn citing the number 23 in touting himself and Caron Butler. I get that DeShawn wears 2, and that Caron wears 3, but DeShawn Stevenson, praising the power of 23? Seems a little off, no?
The DJ, EZ Street, is the same guy credited with launching the pro-DeShawn diss track onto local airwaves. And here's your bad language warning.
