D.C. Sports Media Approval Ratings: Dave Feldman

Finally departing the world of talk radio and cable TV, we move to the networks, WTTG-TV and Dave Feldman. Feldy, as he's known in and out of press boxes, worked radio in the Bay Area and television in Sioux City, Iowa, before going back to California for jobs in Monterey and Santa Ana. Most of us in this market probably first became aware of him during his four-year run in Bristol, where he hosted SportsCenter and ESPN News, did college hoops play-by-play and captained ESPN2's "College Hoops 2Night."

He joined FOX 5 in 2000 and became sports director the following year (replacing Brett Haber, who had left for WCBS-TV in New York). Feldman has won four local Emmys, and co-hosted a short-lived morning sports talk program on SportsTalk 980 from spring to fall last year.

Feldman is a native of Palo Alto and a graduate of Tufts University; he has famous friends, having played high school basketball with Jim Harbaugh and coached basketball at Stanford with Tom Davis, Bruce Pearl and Kermit Washington. Like a majority of media approval subjects thus far, he also has a blog.

Bearing in mind that you have just two options, here's your chance to judge Dave Feldman. Choose carefully, and offer explanation below.

Past Results:

Chick Hernandez (82 percent approval)

Steve Czaban (75 percent approval)

John Riggins (70 percent approval)

As good as Feldy is on TV, he rocks on the radio too. Quality sports guy with snarky sense of humor. Approve.

I like him because I was listening to him last fall on 980 right before the hockey season started and he said something like, "We're going to talk about hockey--because there are a lot of Caps fans out there." Interestingly, just a few weeks later his show was replaced by Dan Patrick. Hmmm.....

He's fine on TV too, although I wish Channel 5 gave him a little more time.

I used to listen to Feldy and Maloney and what the show should have been called was "Feldy and his Ego". Plus I think he has a think with Lindsey Czarniak which means points off also. Apparently they go "running together."

I actually sat next to Dave at the Georgetown-Davidson game in Raleigh. He was a really nice guy. Just not the best day to meet anyone (

Approve! Great on TV and I enjoy him on the radio as well when he is on Sports Reporters.

Feldy's girlfriend is hot. No, really. And she's rich. Seriously.

Feldy's fine; a little bit of a smirker, but solid and pretty funny.

OK, we're done with that. BRING ON LARRY MICHAEL! BRING ON THE HOUSE MAN! BRING ON THE DANNY'S BOOT-LICKER! Then you'll see some disapproval.

I think Feldman's show being replaced by DP has more to do with the fact that Dan's brother was a DC Clear Channel exec than a vast interntaional conspiracy by Andy Polley to keep hockey talk off 980.

If I knew exactly when his Fox 5 sportscasts come on, I'd probably watch them more often. I liked it better in the days when you could tune in at 10:50 PM to watch Feldman or his predecessors Buckhantz and Haber - a half hour before the late night sports reports on channels 4, 7 and 9.
