D.C. Approval Ratings: Daniel Snyder

(Jonathan Newton - The Washington Post)

What's that? It's still June in D.C.? Right then.

So anyhow, why should we only judge D.C. Sports Media Members? Why not judge actual D.C. Sports Figures? I asked these questions to my official guideperson for all things sports bloggy, Mister Irrelevant's Jamie Mottram, and he agreed that there's no particular reason D.C. sports fans shouldn't be offered a chance to vote yeah or nay on, say, Ryan Langerhans. Or, you know, Mike O'Koren. Or, you know, Daniel Snyder.

This was already in the back of my head, and then I stumbled upon an ExtremeSkins poll from last week that asked readers to do just that: "Do you generally approve or disapprove of Dan Snyder's handling of our football team in recent months?" That's a bit more narrow than I would have stated it, confined as it is to the past two months, but still, the results sort of surprised me. Not too many public figures have 85.4 percent approval ratings, which is where Snyder was hovering as I typed these words. I mean, not too many sainted religious figures have 85.4 percent approval ratings.

As you well know, readers--or, at least, the most vocal of those--have often expressed a slightly different opinion. But I should say that Snyder has of late done fairly well in things like's annual ranking of the best NFL owners, and some have cited Snyder's recent behavior and comments--in, say, this Wash Times interview--to suggest that he's now a different owner than the guy who once finished 10th in an "Worst Owners in Sports" survey.

Anyhow, bearing in mind that you have just two options, here's your chance to judge Daniel Snyder as of mid-June, 2008. Choose carefully, and offer explanation below.
