D.C. Sports Media Approval Ratings: Andy Pollin
Sorry. Instinct. Indeed, even if SportsTalk 980's Andy Pollin never again serves as the lovably named radio sidekick to Tony Kornheiser, "Andy Polley" will never go away. Pollin/Polley remains the inspiration behind Andy Polley's Happy Fun Time Message Board Extravaganza! and it's hard to hear his given name without playing that "Andy Polley!" clip in your head.
Anyhow, Pollin has spent several decades in sports radio, working for several stations in Texas, WNTR-AM in this market, the UPI Radio Network and the Associated Press Radio Network. He was on staff when sports talk radio pioneer WFAN launched in New York and stayed with the station for five years before coming home in 1992 to help launch WTEM, where he was the first and forever sports director.
He currently co-hosts The Sports Reporters with Steve Czaban from 4-7 and has hosted a wide variety of other programs during his time in D.C., from Redskins pre-game and post-game shows to things called "Redskins Magazine" and "Redskins Game Day" (on WTTG) to ESPN's "GameDay" with Mel Kiper Jr. to WTEM's current "5th Quarter Show." He also is the author of the upcoming "Great Book of Washington DC Sports Lists" (with the WaPo's Leonard Shapiro).
Bearing in mind that you have just two options, here's your chance to judge Andy Pollin. Choose carefully, and offer explanation below.
