Cal Ripken at the Mall

(Photos courtesy of Aaron Goldstein)

Take six.

Some blogs have made their mark with pictures of famous professional athlete doing borderline inappropriate things with comely young ladies in social settings. This blog is in the process of trying to make its mark with pictures of famous professional athletes awkwardly posed with excited young men at large retail outlets. As always, e-mail me your best candid shots with D.C. sports icons, please, with any necessary explanation included.

Although I have to say, it's gonna be hard for you to beat this pair of photos from longtime Bog reader Aaron Goldstein. In fact, it would be hard for me to love a photo more than I love the artwork pictured above, which will soon be my wallpaper. Aaron explains:

I met Cal Ripken Jr. walking through a mall in Towson a few months back and had a camera on me. Important lesson I learned that day: If you take a picture with Cal Ripken Jr., use a flash or no one will believe you.

The [below photo] is when I was in a Cleveland mall, about seven years ago when the Grizzlies were still in Vancouver and they were in town to play the Cavs and my friend David said, " There's Mike Bibby," so we took pictures and Michael Dickerson was with him. Bibby was actually wearing NJ Nets shorts.

Previously in this series: Belal Gardizi and the Wizards at Sony Style, Danny Suk and Caron Butler outside T.G.I. Friday's, John Park Williams and Clinton Portis at the Verizon Wireless store in Tysons, Eric Young and Gilbert Arenas at PF Chang's, David Han and Santana Moss at Ibiza.

I can see why the dude had trouble with the flash, he was in a freakin' light saber fight with Cal. It's really, really hard to capture that on film, unless you're like George freakin' Lucas.

Hold up, isn't red the color of the evil guy's light saber? Has Cal turned to the dark side?

How is Cal Ripken a D.C. sports icon?

Cal did pose in a Rays hat when he bought a Rays minor league team.

So yes, yes he has.

That's not Ripken--that's Agt. Steinz!
