Giants Stadium: Good Spots Still Available
I guess good New Yorkers have plenty of good excuses for not arriving in the parking lots at 2 p.m., which is when they opened. Work, for example. Or the fact that the immediate vicinity of Giants Stadium currently resembles Half Street circa 2006, times 30. My cabbie and I performed several nice loops around the stadium.
Anyhow, staring at the expanse of asphalt and cranes that surrounds us, it occurred to me that maybe we're too hard on FedEx Field, so I asked the first group of Giants fans I saw what they thought.
"Giants Stadium, it's not gonna be Citi Field, it's not gonna be FedEx, it's always gonna be Giants Stadium," Jeff Maiorino said.
"And oh, by the way, we're world champions," Walter Schoenborn added.
"Winning, that's the difference between Redskins fans and Giants fans," Ernest Kaye thirded.
"Washington blows with the wind man," Sam Sokolow fourthed.
Funny what a Super Bowl win can do for the self-esteem. Anyhow, having gone to great lengths in my Redskins tattoo coverage, above please see Sam's Giants tattoo. "After five years living in Venice Beach my wife told me to get a tattoo, and there was only one to get," he explained. Not this, but not bad.
Anyhow, it's about 90 degrees and sunny here, meat is starting to burn, footballs are in the air, shirtless men abound, a Redskins fan just walked by in a Santana Moss jersey eliciting jeers, Giants fans have all sorts of "world champions!!!!!" gear (including tie-dye!), and it's awfully nice to be at an NFL stadium again.
