Smoot Gives Chris Horton His Nickname

Chris Horton is not only the future starting safety of the Washington Redskins; he's also funny. For example, the rookie talked about how teammates were ragging him after he "got my hair did" following last week's breakout three-turnover game.

"I just got it re-twisted the day after the [Saints] game," the braided Horton explained. "I had a scheduled appointment, it's been a long time, and I had to get it re-twisted. But a lot of guys gave me crap, telling me I got it re-twisted because [of the Saints game]. A lot of the DBs, Fred Smoot [said] 'Oh, he come in here with a new look because he made all these plays and he want to look good on camera....' "

Speaking of Smoot, has he decided on the rookie safety's new NFL nickname? He has.

"He calls me K-Horton," Horton said. "He's like, 'C-Horton's old school. You've got to change your first initial to K and start spelling it new school.' "

As for Horton's inevitable move into the starting defense, "I think we're still with Reed," Jim Zorn said during his Monday press conference a few moments ago. "I haven't heard anything different and I haven't thought anything different. We have a package that's considered Big Nickel where we have Reed and Horton in the game at the same time, but what I saw was Reed was limping. I don't know if he had a sprained ankle. I don't see a sprained ankle necessarily on the injury list, but he may have had to come out."

Maybe he should start calling himself P-Doughty.
