Zorn Star and Chocolate Cities

Now this should make you proud to be from D.C. On the left it's Matt Fansler, in Gilbert's "Chocolate City" Skins shoes. On the right, it's Patrick Deyhle, in Mister Irrelevant's "Zorn Star" t-shirt. (Buy yours here!)

They set up shop 30 yards from the South Tower, and their tailgating conversation includes plenty of Washington Post gab: whether Sally Jenkins has mellowed toward the Skins, why Mike Wise loves Derrick Frost so much, whether Jason La Canfora hates the franchise ("a whiny hater," one of them said, to which I say bully to Jason for being big enough to elicit pre-game trash talk), whether they watch Jason Reid's "Redskins Unrestricted" videos (some do, some don't; "they look like they were shot in a prison cell," one said), and why the front page of our sports section today was dominated by a piece on Vinny Cerrato instead of gameday red meat for optimistic fans.

Several of them were staying in the team hotel last night; they saw, among others, Frank Hanrahan, Larry Michael, Marcus Washington ("super calm"), LaRon Landry (walking to the elevator) and Clinton Portis's mom with her entourage, sitting in the hotel lobby with Drew Rosenhaus. You know you're a proper Redskins fan when you recognize Portis's mom by face. And Frank Hanrahan, for that matter.

"You guys are brave," a reporter from the New Jersey Network just said, walking by the dozen or so Skins fans in this group. "I like it, I like it. Is Jason Taylor playing tonight?"

Zorn Star shirt or no Zorn Star shirt, though, they didn't know.

Like me, they agreed that there isn't much to distinguish this place from Raljon. More white guys in doo rags, maybe.

"I've never seen so many people with backup running back jerseys, ever," pointed out Nick Ditchey, as yet another fan walked by wearing an Ahmad Bradshaw shirt. It's true, Bradshaw jerseys are everywhere. Haven't seen any blog-created Giants shirts yet. But thus far, all the Giants fans have been exceedingly polite to the very, very, very small number of folks in burgundy.

Any interaction with those notorious drunken tailgaters, the Dead Hoffa Crew? I heard they drink their beer out of an empty hazardous waste barrel! They are HARD CORE!

Those are some good-looking fans! I also went to the game and can tell you that the Giants fans did not treat girls wearing Cooley jerseys with any sort of respect. In fact, they were awful.

Doesn't Snyder sell jerseys of the Skins' 3rd string QB?

Well, I think we know the answer to the Sally Jenkins question...

Dan - If you thought the Zorn Star shirts were cool, check out the Horny For Zorny shirts that have been available for about two weeks now. Here is the link to the facebook page.
