Caron Thinks Hasselhoff is German

Caron addresses the German media. (By Jesse D. Garrabrant - NBAE via Getty)

Sadly, my high school German classes are proving insufficient for me to translate in full this Q&A Caron Butler did with Bild, the revealing German paper. I was able to ascertain that Bild has judged a Wiz-Hornets preseason game less important than "Frau von Chelsea-Star: Sex macht mich glucklich!" and also than "Zweitliga-Spielerin wechselt ins Sex-Geschäft." Guess the Internet is the same in Germany. Although I couldn't find the Redskins section.

(The Wiz also ranked beneath some sort of football-related Nutella endorsement, according to Bild.)

But fortunately, my memory, some deduction skills, and our friend Babelfish allowed me to have a pretty good idea of what was going on in this passage:

BILD: Welche Deutschen kennen Sie außer Dirk Nowitzki? (Which Germans do you know besides Dirk Nowitzki?)

Butler (lacht): Ist David Hasselhoff Deutscher? Den mögen Sie bei Euch, habe ich gehört. (Is David Hasselhoff German? I heard that you all like him.)

BILD: Der ist Amerikaner... (He's an American....)

Butler: Ok, dann nur Dirk. (Ok, then only Dirk.)

He was laughing, so I'll assume this was just said for the benefit of the Berlin Athletik Bog. Because, duh, you'd think Caron has at least heard of Chris Kaman.

In other Caron spricht Deutsch! news, his Three Ds were translated as "Entschlossenheit, Disziplin, Einsatz," and he said that while he likes McCain, he's pulling for Obama, because the latter stands for the Change We Need. If you speak German and feel like posting other interview highlights, I'd be much obliged.

I am shocked at the number of athletes who are progressively to the political right.

Guess that's what happens when your pockets are straight.

In the interview, they also asked him whether he sees himself playing in Europe. He said may be towards the end of his career.
They also asked him about his past and going to jail.
They also asked him about the Wizards chances and he gave the typically response: Boston is the favorite right now, Philly and Miami are better. But he thinks the Wiz have a good chance
