Gilbert Arenas Plans to Elope
A few lost souls, blinded by the Potbelly and Fuddruckers lights, have suggested we write less about Gilbert Arenas until he resumes playing basketball. Well, sure, and maybe The Post should also devote more resources to coverage of Howard and Georgetown football.
Look, fact is, Gilbert off the court likely eclipses the Wizards on the court in entertainment value, a fact sadly driven home this weekend. The small-ball lineup fails to close the deal in Detroit, and even though you could tell for more than two hours that the Wizards were going to hang around only to fall short in the final few minutes, I hunt around for more than two hours only to flip off Dave Johnson in disgust in the final few minutes. Meantime, Gilbert is giving Comcast SportsyNet interviews with friend-of-the-blogosphere Chris Miller, who sets him up like this.
Chris Miller: The question everybody in D.C. and in the blogosphere wants to know is, have you set the date yet?
Gilbert: Um. No. Um.
Does he remain speechless? He does not.
"I told her, I said, 'You know, really all engagement means is a girlfriend with a ring now. right?....She said, 'How did you say that? It's called engagement. I'm your fiancee.' And I was like, 'Really, you're my girlfriend with a ring....You know, we're thinking about it, maybe next summer, depending on how everything goes. Or the following summer."
Or the summer of 2011. Or the summer of infinity times three.
Also, Gilbert reveals that the happy couple plans on eloping to Vegas.
"She's not liking that right now," the romantic half of the happy couple revealed. "I gave her the options, I said, 'Do you want your money in the ring or do you want your money in the wedding?' A woman's gonna choose a ring."
True love always makes me weepy early in the morning. Maybe they can play video games in the hotel before going to the chapel.
In another Web-released clip of CSN's exclusive Gilbert interview, he talks about some of his recent tattoos (Jesus on his side "because I wanted Him to be with me," and seven crosses on his knee "because it need all the blessing it can get"), the reason he went to the shop ("When you're injured you have nothing to do. I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't party, so besides video gaming kids...") and says that perhaps the theme of his latest comeback will be "Welcome Back."
As in, Welcome Back, Kotter? friend-of-the-blogosphere Chris Miller suggested. As in, Young Jeezy, Gilbert said. Been on his grizzy but now he's back in the place. Or something like that.
Anyhow, I'll take those interviews over a loss in Detroit any day.
