Morning Look: Gilbert's New Obama Tattoo

Was it a good night at the Phone Booth? It was. Juan Dixon was wearing a bright red vest and skinny black tie. DeShawn Stevenson was wearing a bow tie, which is apparently now an every-game convention. Caron Butler was kibitzing in the back hallway with DeAngelo Hall, insisting that the Redskins' new cornerback had to go to every home Wiz game, since he was 1-0. Hall was telling me that he didn't grow up a Wizards fan; "I don't think anyone was then," he said, which was probably true. Antonio Daniels was wearing socks striped in 17 or so colors; "you've got to coordinate," he was saying. "You've got to accessorize. Even though that sounds like a woman, you've got to do what you can sometimes. They've got the purses, they've got the shoes, we've got to accessorize when we can."

"You've got to be live with the socks," Dixon agreed.

Sure, there were disappointments. JaVale McGee's shoes did not include the word "Chee$e," and he said he wouldn't be talking any more about his shoe sayings. (Last night's shoes said "Kill Mode Squad," if I'm not mistaken.)

But then there were triumphs. Caron Butler gushed about McGee. "Lemonhead got some moves man," he said. "Keep watching him, man. He's special. He's special....He's Lemonhead now, he's my young boy, so he's Lemonhead." Butler said he and Antawn Jamison watched McGee spring up the court one time, turned to each other, and said "let's do what he do." "I felt young again," Butler said.

And then, of course, there was Gilbert the Zero. NBC's Dan Hellie got the first known media photo of his new Obama-tribute finger tattoo. "He told me he got it so he could look at it during games and see the, 'We Believe,' " Hellie said on his Web site.

The Prez-Elect's photo also hangs by Arenas's stall. Pretty good for someone who was so recently undecided. And it's also another feather in the cap for Dan Shanoff.

McGee is the one true center for the Washington Wizards.

The finger tats need work on the delivery.

I traditionally read from the top down, and the phrase:

in believe we change

doesn't really click.

What a Complete a$$ , would seem like the artist would have done in the correct way. You read from the top to the bottom.I suppose there is always laser to remove it.

Is it just me, or are Arenas' antics becoming more and more petty and meritless? It's one thing to be strange and play online poker at halftime; it's another to celebrate your political ignorance and soon thereafter pretend you were part of it all along, just because it seems like the popular thing to do. The more I hear about Arenas' thoughts on "marketing" himself, the more I think he sees us as suckers waiting to be exploited. This is interesting and all, but let's not lose sight of why you're in the spotlight in the first place, Gil: TO MAKE THE WIZARDS CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERS. If you fail at that, you can tattoo a picture of your face on your face and I'll just hate you for it.

nevertheless it still is pretty ugly
