Morning Look: Hip Hip in Detroit

It's been a bad couple of weeks for the Hip Hip Hoorayride. A win over Detroit was followed by "Win on Three!," a massive blip on the season-ending DVD retrospective. Making matters worse, the inevitable return to Hipness against the Steelers was preempted by some unfortunate on-the-field circumstances.

So let's briefly return to happier days, when four friends from Montgomery County traveled to the Midwest wearing their Hip Hipness on their sleeves. Ok, more like on their signs, but whatever.

These guys--Seth, Rob, Chris and Mike--are Maryland alums and Skins season ticket holders who take an annual road trip to see a college-Skins doubleheader. This year, it was Michigan-Michigan State and Redskins-Lions.

Seth is a big Hip Hip proponent, and as they were leaving the hotel that morning he handed out the signs.

"The fans in Detroit were cool," Mike wrote to me. "Most didn't get the HHH but got a kick out of how excited we were. (But then again, there isn't much for them to get excited about). The Redskin Fans loved it and there were more of them than Lions fans - note to Wilbon!."

My eagle-eyed friends at Mister Irrelevant had already picked this gang out of the crowd with some television photograhy, but I figured a close-up couldn't hurt. And as you'll note below, even though they're Terps fans, they try to blend in during their college trips. Pretty convincing imitation.

Good job boys, but you know you had more fun last year when you did the Notre Dame/Colts trip.
