GW Fan Plays Games With ESPN
Maybe you've heard how the George Washington's basketball team isn't off to its best start of all time, what with the five-game losing streak and the blips against Coppin State and Longwood and the Athletic Director "wondering whether it's time to turn out the gym lights earlier each night to save on electricity and heating bills."
But that doesn't mean fans can't find joy in the small things. Like in sending this text message into ESPN, and having a botched version of it appear on the network's bafflingly stupid in-game text ticker, amongst the impassioned texts from Conference USA fans:
Marion, DC: George Washington should be ranked their guards and Robb Diggs will get them deep into the tourney.
Coming next from GW Fans: fake texts from "Gary in Maryland," concerning dry-cleaning bills.

Why is this a prank?

Actually, that's one of the more astute comments I've seen on the ticker.

In England they've been doing this for years. Most of the comments are fans talking smack. Outside of dropping an F-Bomb or such, I can't see why ESPN would edit the comment, or even care what the viewer's position is.
Try to get a double-entendre in there and then see what happens. That would be pure class.
What I want to know is how to get a text up on the big-board at Verizon Center? For some reason I couldn't get "Ovie-Obama '08" up as a comment every time I tried.
Thx,
Jay!
