Karl Hobbs Also Doesn't Care What You Say
After Greivis Vasquez tossed down the true fandom gauntlet over the weekend, telling the fairweather sorts to rid themselves from the Comcast Center, Karl Hobbs followed in kind. George Washington is suffering through a dodgy season, and the fan base is in distress, but the coach is unbowed.
"I never pay attention to what the fans say," Hobbs said, according to the GW Hatchet. "We went undefeated in this league three years ago, we're two years away from an NCAA tournament and they weren't happy. So, why would they be now? They're never happy, never satisfied and they always want more. But as a coach I understand that, I don't have a problem with that."
"The loyal fans, I know who they are," he also said. Frankly, that list can't be too long at this point. It's a fascinating Hatchet story, filled with notable non-endorsements of Hobbs by GW officials, and it also says that tax records show Hobbs made $509,000 in 2007, making him the third-highest paid university employee. That's a lot of money to lose to Longwood and Coppin State.
(By way of comparison, Jim Larranaga's base salary is $525,000, although he also has lots of incentives and the like. Gary Williams banks something like $1.6 million per, guaranteed. Virginia's Dave Leitao, as of two years ago, was at something like $925,000 per, minimum.)

Don't be fooled. Fang Mitchell isn't signing Coppin St. up for all of those guaranteed games just to make money for the athletic department.

To be fair, Williams has to make that, and more, just to cover his dry cleaning bill.
It would take that and more to have to coach GV. Come to think of it, GV is just one V short of playing for Hobbs. ... What a pair that would be!!!!!
Art, I'm in for 2,000 on the daily double.
Ok, Weed, the category is short guys who's name starts with K ... and the answer is "we are a young team and we are trying to figure out how to play against a seasoned team."
What is Karl Hobb's pat answer in every post game press conference? Art...
