LeBron's Travel: The Video
This first video is almost better than the actual game footage for analyzing LeBron and his travel-slash-crab dribble in last night's Wiz win, although there's no replacing the utter shock in Steve Buckhantz's voice when he realized LeBron got called for traveling. By the way, I realized late last night that LeBron's actually not thin-skinned; he just has a fragile exoskeleton.
Also, longtime reader Ben sent along this discussion of the crab dribble from a refereeing forum. The consensus: "That version of the crab dribble is clearly a travel." The punchline: "A crab has 8 legs, so the pivot foot is a real mystery, just like when Lebron does practically anything."
The Cavs masterful beat guy, Brian Windhorst, had this to write: "LeBron, in my opinion, has gotten away with skipping on jump stops for years but is so fast and so strong with it, it rarely gets called. However, twice in the last few years including this year he's featured on the DVD the NBA sends out on points of emphasis for officials on jump stop violations."
The key post-game interviews, courtesy Comcast SportsyNet, unfortunately minus the phrase "crab dribble":
