Redskins Titanium Necklace Fetish Spreading
I knew something weird was going on when Jason Campbell strode to the podium on the day-after media farewell tour last month, wearing some sort of brightly colored, eye-catching, soul-balancing necklace.
Surely you all remember the similar necklace Jim Zorn wore to many of his late-season post-game press conferences? Which, after some digging by The Redskins Blog, was revealed to be "the Rakuwa Titanium Necklace X30 Aqua Titan (or some combination of those words, depending on which label you believe), produced by Phiten."
Weird, right? Not nearly so weird as walking into the lobby of Redskins Park a few minutes later and seeing Chris Cooley also in a kooky colorful necklace! It was like the alien necklace pod people had descended on Ashburn, positive circular decorative vibes in hand. Who was going to be next? Ryan Plackemeier? Vinny Cerrato? Daniel Snyder? Chief Zee?
Cooley declined to address the necklace at the time, promising all would be revealed in a future blog post. Today was the day. All was revealed, sort of, at Shutdown Corner, where Cooley describes a visit from Zorn's necklace supplier.
Before I knew it I had my new necklace around my neck and a bag of all kinds of Phiten [stuff] to try out, as well the full scoop about the benefits and possibilities of titanium. So we'll see where this takes me. The necklace hasn't come off for the last two weeks, and I'm not sure if I'm more balanced, but it is pretty damn cool. I've worked out a couple times, but after deciding to write about the Z necklace I'm inclined to begin scientific research to find out if it really works. Should be interesting.
I guess you could make the argument that there's some sort of cosmic balance in 8-8, so maybe it really does work. Plenty of baseball guys are on board, and the last time I wrote about this, I got an e-mail out of the blue from a former MLB third baseman whose baseball card I own. And with certain other NFC East teams already claiming dibs on bracelets, the Skins might as well go the necklace route.
