The Caps Hold a Draft
"Sorry, we had a draft to take care of," Bruce Boudreau said this afternoon before addressing the media.
That's right, a draft. With tomorrow evening's closed-to-the-public outdoor session at Chevy Chase Country Club fast approaching, the Caps needed to choose players for a three-on-three tournament that will be the highlight of the session.
"And you know, they'll probably put something on the line," Boudreau explained. "So we had to make it fair."
Jose Theodore and Brent Johnson were captains. The results, by Boudreau's telling, seemed interesting. Like, the first two picks overall? John Erskine and Shaone Morrisonn. Alex Ovechkin? He went second-to-last.
"Well, I don't know if they've got GM written on their future," Boudreau said of his goalies. "You know goalies, they're gonna choose their defensemen. It's like if you were a quarterback, they're gonna choose their offensive linemen. So there is some method to their fun."
"I'll be on the ice, I'll be reffing," he said.
"I don't know, if we have one I might throw it on," he said. "Stripes make you look thinner, right?"
With the power to fine for dissent?
"They just better accept everything that happens," he said. "There won't be a lot of refereeing. There's not a lot of rules in this game we're playing."
