Caps Fans Learn Swedish Chants
Reader Rich writes....
The other night at the Caps game we were in the Acela Club and we noticed about 20 people, all with signed Backstrom Jerseys. After talking to some of them, it turns out they are from Sweden and took a vacation in America JUST to see Backstrom. After a couple beers they decided to teach us a Swedish hockey team chant for a team that Backstrom used to play for.
Perhaps not the world's most outlandishly detailed or harmonious chant, but it'll play. And having added another Swede and another Czech in recent days, it's hard to imagine that there aren't at least five countries now where the Caps are, at worst, everybody's second-favorite team. Plus, having spent my fair share of time with the parents of Swedish handballers in China, I'm always up for a good Sverige sing-along. Let's just quote from the CLUB BFD blog, or "blogg," as they'd put it:

I lived in DC for about 5 years and I didn't hear anyone even mention the Caps. I give you props for getting the word out. - BettorFan.com

This was fun. I'm glad I asked them what they meant when they first chanted his name. Or else a great opportunity would've gone by the wayside.
