Dexter Manley: Still Quotable
I believe I've mentioned on multiple occasions that it would be good for business if Dexter Manley still played for the Washington Redskins. Today on ESPN 980's The Locker Room, he again proved my point. Like, somehow they began discussing Max Zendejas, of all the people, and Dexter, believe it or not, had an opinion.
"Zendejas, he kicked that Mexican style," Dexter said. "I'm not so sure he really liked football. He probably liked hanging out with some of the young ladies. He wasn't a real Redskin, to me."
Wonder what he'd make of Dave Rayner. You want more quotes? Sure, why not.
On himself: "I know that there's a lot of guys who get sent to the Hall of Fame, but nobody from I'd say '81 to '87 rushed the passer better than Dexter Manley, and today I can pat myself on my back. That's in my humble opinion."
On the Hall of Fame: "I just think that more Redskins need to get in. I don't know if Mr. Sndyer's on the committee, he needs to sort of take his place. And really ,if he could have more selection and select who goes into the Hall of Fame, maybe the value of his football team would go up, because it seems like that's what they do now. Jerry Jones goes out and fights for his boys, that guy in New England, he fights for his boys. I understand that a lot of these owners push for their players. But see, I didn't play for Snyder, so therefore he has no...I'm hoping he has an interest, because the more people in the Hall of Fame for him, that helps the value of his football team, that's the way I see it."
On the Super Bowl: "See I played for the Cardinals, for Mr. Bidwell. I didn't necessarily care for him too much....He was a weird guy....I was the franchise player, but they didn't want to name me the franchise player, so I really wasn't pulling for them. That was the first time that I've [not] pulled for the NFC. I really wanted to see Mike Tomlin get it and the Pittsburgh Steelers, because most of them have infiltrated in this Washington D.C. area, and I've got a lot of Pittsburgh Steelers fans."
And as long as we're throwing out quotes, how about Clinton Portis on Colt Brennan:
"Now that he's healthy I think he feels like he's one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL," Portis told the Honolulu Star Bulletin. "He deserves a shot. When he gets his shot, I think he'll go out and be real exciting."
