Adam Dunn Makes People Laugh
"It was an 87 mph fastball thrown by a 25-year-old Venezuelan right-hander who's never sniffed the major leagues," Amy Nelson wrote for ESPN.com this morning. "And when Adam Dunn saw it, he smoked it, and then a small smirk pursed his lips as he looked into his home dugout."
And his teammates, no doubt, smirked back. Or, better yet, laughed.
Since Dunn has left the Nationals, it's pretty hard to find a photo of him and a teammate where the teammate isn't laughing. Like, big, visible belly laughs. Either Adam Dunn is an extremely witty fellow, or people just can't stop reviewing their favorite Will Ferrell scenes whenever he approaches.
"Before he went to the plate, Dunn told his teammates he was going to homer," the ESPN.com story continued. "He knew Shane Victorino was getting loose, ready to replace him. So Dunn told his teammates he wanted to go out with a bang. When he took poor Ivan Blanco deep, it added to the USA lead, which had been padded by an eight-run outburst an inning before. Dunn's teammates jumped up from their seats in the dugout, seemingly laughing at the absurdity of it all."
I don't think they were seemingly laughing at the absurdity of it all. I'd guess instead that Dunn said something that made them lol. It's been a while since the Nats had one of them on board.
He also seems to have a lot of different ways to celebrate near home plate, but that's a story for another day.
