Gary-Greivis Passion Play Continues

So after American wins its NCAA tournament play-in game, Maryland follows suit. Pretty good win for Ohio State today, too. What a day for the colleges of Gary Williams.

With his players now having ensured that the headline for the '08-'09 season will be no worse than "Scrappy Maryland Team Proves Williams's Critics Wrong", this would be a good time to make a post about how dang much Greivis Vasquez loves his coach. Oh, right, I did that last night. But that was before that screaming, pounding man hug those two men enjoyed after tonight's win over Wake Forest. And, you know, I wasn't the only one to notice.

"Hey you laid quite a hug on your coach there at the end of the game," said the TV post-game questioner, which wasn't really a question.

"I love him, I love him," Greivis said. "You know, people always talk how come I praise him so much? It's because I think I'm just like him. You know, so competitive and I love the game and have so much passion for the game, and he does the same thing. So I guess we feel the same and we've got kind of like the same personality. So I'm just happy to be here and I'm happy to be one of his players."

More reaction?

* A "Just Dance" video. (Testudo Times)

* "Next up for Maryland is gravy. Pure gravy. rovided things fall into place like people are predicting and the Terps make the NCAA Tournament, the season is a success. (East Coast Bias)

* The win in photos. (Shell Games)

* A newish YouTube of the Gary Williams Song, which the creator re-sent to me right after the buzzer. (FurzyWeb)

* Also, did you read how Gary made "Win Two" t-shirts for his team entering this tourney? Man, I want a photo of those. (Feinstein)

And with American's win over Holy Cross this afternoon and Norfolk State's win over South Carolina State just a few minutes ago, that makes 4 local teams in the tournament. That's Radford, VCU, American, and the winner of tomorrow's Morgan State-Norfolk State game.

I told you 2.5 for the over-under was too low.

Four automatic (VCU, Radford, American, MEAC winner) and one presumed (Maryland). With a win today, UMBC would bump the count up to six.

Well, scratch UMBC. We're going with five, it seems.
