Jim Bowden Discusses the Nats' Pen

In case reading his Twitter feed isn't comprehensive enough, you can also discern some of Jim Bowden's thoughts by following his Facebook postings. Like, he apparently posted the following on Nick Johnson's wall.

Nick all is cool.....Lakers won big!......your bullpen is friggin killing me.......start warming up.....you can do both....the Babe did......Magic.......Dwight the man......saw two good movies (Star Trek and Angels and Demons).....but I'm sure you'll never see them which is why I'm telling u......any good video's to send me?

Yeah, the Lakers did get the job done....Dwight Howard is indeed man-like....Haven't seen those movies but I read Angels and Demons once....I could probably think of some videos if he ever asked me....The Bullpen, haha, yeah, they haven't....

Wait a second, YOUR bullpen? Jim Bowden is lol'ing on Facebook, featuring diarrhea-style ellipses, at the Nationals' bullpen THAT HE CONSTRUCTED HIMSELF. And it's friggin killing him?

Wonder who's been friggin killing him the most. Closer Joel Hanrahan, about whom Bowden once said "He's dominated the big boys. The potential is certainly there." Or maybe Garrett Mock, whom Bowden once said "has shown flashes of brilliance. Whether he ends up a third starter, a fourth starter or in the bullpen, he has quality major league stuff and he'll keep getting better."

Or maybe some of the free-agent signees; "There are a whole bullpen full of 'em still out there," Bowden told Thomas Boswell in February. Or perhaps some of the younger kids; "There are trades we are working on, but we are also not afraid to allow a young pitcher to surprise people in Spring Training," he told MLB.com in January. "I think we've watched a lot of Major League clubs over the last two or three years spend a lot of money on their bullpens rather than other places, and it didn't get them anywhere....Sometimes, the best bullpens are built from within."

Ah, whatever. All is cool.

Wait, how on earth can I find Jim Bowden's facebook page? I can't seem to locate him. Also, Nick Johnson.

Enough already!!! Its time to rid the Nats of the Jim Bowden curse. Dump all these hasbeen and never were relief pitchers. If they are going to lose every game due to blown saves, I'd rather see what the younger guys can do, if they have any promise. Its clear that Mock, Colome, Wells, etc cannot do the job. At least Hanrahan shows some promise. If they have no relievers, then bring up starters and have the starters split games among them. Last night, watching the Nats score 5 and remove Detwiler, I sat back and wondered how long it would take for the bullpen tosquander the lead. I did not have to wait long. I switched to the hockey game. And, Daniel Cabrera? How long will it take for Manny Acta to realize that this is not a major league pitcher? Replace him with Detwiler or Balester or Strasburg, if they can sign him. Maybe now that Bowden is gone, and the Nats will be spared the Cincinatti discards, he might sign. Trade one or more of the corner outfielders and get some pitching, or a bonafide centerfielder or a second baseman who isn't afraid to cover first base.
