Nats Bats Also Feature Spelling Mistakes

The first time I met Jordan Zimmermann, he explained just how often people confuse him with Ryan Zimmerman. Hell, Sports Illustrated spelled his name wrong throughout its season preview. It's understandable, and their status as like-named teammates is undeniably bizarre. In that context, if any other professional sports team in the universe sent Jordan Zimmermann up to the plate with a bat that read "Zimmerman," it would hardly even be worth mentioning.

But when the Natinals give Zimmermann a Zimmerman, I'd say it's worth mentioning.

"Hopefully the next batch that comes in will have two Ns on it," Zimmermann said this afternoon.

"Unbelievable," observed Nats' radio guy Charlie Slowes, who was MC'ing the Q&A session at the ESPNZone.

Zimmermann absolved clubhouse manager Mike Wallace of any responsibility, so I guess we can blame the bat maker on this one. Props for the hand-written second 'N," in any case. And thanks to co-worker Cathy Taylor/Miss Chatter for the photo.

(The bat splintered, by the way, which is why it was being used at a signing session last week.)

Leaving the second N off Zimermann I can understand. During the fanfest for season ticket holders this winter, though, I saw that in the club house they left the N of Shairon Martis' name on his locker. I brought it to the attention of the staff in the clubhouse, but they just left the name over his locker. No idea if they eventually fixed it. I'm kicking myself now for not getting a photograph of the mistake.

No one can spell anything with the Nationals these days. Check out Feinstein's column: Martis (both names at first reference) and Strasburg are wrong.
There are evil gremlins on the loose. They attack uniforms, bats, newspapers columns.

Dan - I was the lucky buyer of the bat and have to give JZim credit for adding the missing -N- in a similar font so I didn't even notice it until JZim pointed it out to me.

If you ever want Jordan Zimmermann items on eBay you have to search under the incorrect spelling too as there are more of his items listed under the [SEARCH] Jordan Zimmerman....
