Nats Bats Also Feature Spelling Mistakes
The first time I met Jordan Zimmermann, he explained just how often people confuse him with Ryan Zimmerman. Hell, Sports Illustrated spelled his name wrong throughout its season preview. It's understandable, and their status as like-named teammates is undeniably bizarre. In that context, if any other professional sports team in the universe sent Jordan Zimmermann up to the plate with a bat that read "Zimmerman," it would hardly even be worth mentioning.
But when the Natinals give Zimmermann a Zimmerman, I'd say it's worth mentioning.
"Hopefully the next batch that comes in will have two Ns on it," Zimmermann said this afternoon.
"Unbelievable," observed Nats' radio guy Charlie Slowes, who was MC'ing the Q&A session at the ESPNZone.
Zimmermann absolved clubhouse manager Mike Wallace of any responsibility, so I guess we can blame the bat maker on this one. Props for the hand-written second 'N," in any case. And thanks to co-worker Cathy Taylor/Miss Chatter for the photo.
(The bat splintered, by the way, which is why it was being used at a signing session last week.)
