Redskins Lead League in Recent Heisman Finalists

(2007 photo by Kelly Kline - AP)

Over the past five seasons, 14 different players have been Heisman Trophy finalists. The Redskins are the only team boasting two of those players.

That would be Chase Daniel and Colt Brennan, who were both finalists in '07, and wound up hanging out all weekend. Their families hit it off, too, and also spent time together. And when the ceremony was over, Daniel and Brennan kind of looked at each other, like, what now.

"Darren McFadden and Tim Tebow had their own things set up," Brennan told me today, after today's Redskins activity. "Me and him were just kind of like, 'What do you want to do?' "

Organizers shepherded the duo to a Manhattan club. Brennan had friends from Boston and New York who met them there.

"We ended up just having a blast the whole night, just hanging out," Brennan said.

So, a quiet night, right?

"It was a normal night out on the town for any college kid It was a good time, though. We all took cabs back to the hotel, we got back to the hotel and we saw Tim Tebow and his family, they were just getting back from whatever event they went to and we all took pictures. I had to get up at like 6 or 7 the next morning to get on a 10-hour flight."

"Just a real mellow guy, a real chill guy," Daniel remembered. "He hasn't changed at all."

Brennan has called Daniel a few times since he signed with the Redskins, took him out to dinner the first time he came to Redskins Park, and has treated his fellow Heisman finalist's arrival as a good thing, even though they could wind up competing for the same job.

"Oh, I was stoked," Brennan said, of his reaction to Daniel's signing. "You never know who's gonna show up. I knew Chase was a good guy, and that's all that matters. I've been around football long enough to know that it's a game, it's a competition, but the best thing you can ask for is a good guy. That makes for healthy competition. That's what it's all about."

Why is it Heisman winners and finalist are not good NFL players?

Tebow is not going to be a good if not average NFL QB. Daniels and Brennan will not have more than 5 year NFL careers combined.

If Tackle Dummy Daniels thinks he is ever going to make an NFL roster he needs to sober up.

I agree that being in the running for a Heisman does not guarantee NFL success, but it doesn't doom you to failure either.
Here is some Heisman Winners and finalists over the past 12 years who became pretty good NFL players, some better then others of course.

Charles Woodson
Peyton Manning
Ricky Williams
Michael Vick
Drew Brees
Carson Palmer
Larry Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald
Eli Manning
Adrian Peterson
Reggie Bush
Darren McFadden

@ Dan, that's my bad. Colt got the name right, I was just typing too fast. I fixed it.

Colt Brennan is awesome. How many Heisman finalist graduated with a college degree? Colt left UH with his Bachelors degree.

It'll be JC, CB, and Daniels when the regular season begins.
