Michael Vick in a (Sort of) Redskins Uniform?
I was at the Takoma Park Fourth of July parade over the weekend, and just like always, the Washington Chiefs briefly fooled me into thinking they were the Washington Redskins when they marched past. Dang, but those jerseys look sort of familiar, no?
And then today, the AP moved this story:
Michael Vick has a place in minor league football if he doesn't head back to the NFL. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, whose federal sentence for dogfighting ends July 20, would we welcomed by The Minor Football League, consisting of professional teams in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The president and founder of the MFL, Richard Myles, said Wednesday the league is willing to give him a place to play while the NFL decides his fate.
So maybe Vick never winds up in a real Redskins uniform, but this would be a pretty close approximate. I haven't heard the team's anthem, but I assume it's called "Hail on the Chieftains."
Conveniently, the league already has community service requirements. And the MFL is all the heck over the DMV; in addition to the Chiefs, franchises apparently include the Baltimore Buccaneers, the DC Falcons and the Calvert County Cowboys. Interesting nickname choices. Interesting logos, too. The Web site says there will be 28 national teams, but I'm not completely seeing that. Like, I haven't seen anything about the Montgomery County Raiders or the South Arlington Packers.
