Morning Bog: A Near Nats Fireworks Fail

Had the Nats gone on to lose yesterday afternoon, the Fireworks Fail would have been so agonizingly perfect that the rest of the Fail Campaign would have to have been called off, because you can't mess with perfection like that. It's like talking during a perfect game. A premature fireworkulation, followed by a walk to Chipper Jones, followed by a game-winning home run; that's the stuff of legend. They'd have talked about that for as long as this franchise exists.

But they won, and so it goes from Historical Fail to humorous side-note on the path to a two-game winning streak, complete with humorous quotes from both teams.

"I turned around to [manager] Manny [Acta], I said 'You got one more pitch, bro,' " Jones said.

"We've got to win a little more," catcher Josh Bard said, "for [the fireworks operators] to get some practice."

The Wash-Nats were just paying homage to the P-Nats, who had a fireworks fail at the top of the 9th on July 4 (still in need of 3 outs). They went on to win the game. After the game, some guy in Armor Alls and a batting helmet ran the bases and slid head first into home, to the delight of several P-Nats players. He must have lost a bet.

J-Zimm should pose with the cheese-prez.

p.s. You might want to ask Nyjer Morgan about his gentleman and deejay alter-egos.

Congrats to Zimm - but I can't think of anything more ridiculous in the world of sports than the MLB All-Star Game. It reminds me of playing in the backyard as a 7 year old, making up the rules to a game as you go.

PLEASE get the Caps play by play on WJFK, 1500 AM sucks! The Wiz are already on ESPN 980, so that's okay.

I am sad about the death of WJFK and the end of a entire genre of radio, last "guy talk/shock jock" station in the US on FM. I do think the Nats and Caps need a radio station though. Its a joke that I can walk to Nats park in 5 minutes but cannot get a signal from their radio station.

I don't listen to shock jock stations but would agree that the Nats need to get back on FM radio. 1500 AM barely comes in at night where I live, and it's not crystal clear during the day. Just checked and WJFK does come in well here (Fairfax County).

I think 1500 AM does a terrific job with the Caps games, much better than WTEM did when it had the games. I know it all comes down to the dollars, but I hope the Caps stay put. Also, I think Tiger Woods has jumped the shark. BBBBoooorrrriiiinnnngggg............

Yea, I'm late to the party but ... was that Abe carved out of guv'ment cheese?

And who ****ing cares what Jim Bowden is twittering about? The guy is as past tense as "Natinals uniform fail" (and I think you have special insight into how doornail-dead that one is already Right, Stein?)
