The Cooleys Are Gonna Be On E!
When I showed up for a Comcast SportsNet panel Tuesday afternoon, featuring Chris Cooley among other guests, I wasn't at all surprised to learn that an E! television crew would be there, too. These are things that happen to the Cooleys.
Turns out, E! will be premiering True Hollywood Story: Football Wives on November 18th, and Christy Cooley will be one of the stars. This means the couple will have company Tuesday night at SneakerBall, and Wednesday at Redskins Park, and at their home for a pottery session at some point.
So, why Christy Cooley?
"First of all what caught my eye was the story of how they met," producer John Formichella told me. "So that was sort of the initial impetus. And then obviously calling and talking to her, she seems really sweet. In casting we talked to a bunch of people, to see who would be good on TV. Chris seemed like a really cool guy and I knew he would be good too, kind of open, down to earth. Obviously he's the fact that he's a well-known personality in the NFL helps. That didn't hinder the process."
wifes wives? They include the spouses of Adam Archuleta, Tony Gonzalez, LaDanian Tomlinson, Quentin Jammer, and possibly Jeff Garcia. If you follow NFL wives, you might recognize some of these names.
"Not that my knowledge of NFL wives is comprehensive, but it seems like with a lot of those people, the women have experience modeling swimsuits or something like that?" I said, awkwardly.
"He's saying that you're interviewing only attractive women," Chris Cooley translated.
"Attractive women make for good TV," Formichella said.
Although it turns out that E!'s audience, both in general and for these housewives show, is mostly female. Anyhow, I asked Christy about life as the glamorous celebrity being followed by a TV crew, and she just laughed.
"Oh, I don't know if I'm the celebrity now," she said. "Maybe some of the wives are. I'm kind of different. I shop at Target, I don't go out to boutiques all the time, dropping thousands of dollars. Maybe for some of them, but not me, I think I'm kind of normal."
"They all seem pretty normal from my experience," Formichella said.
"I think it's cool," Chris Cooley said. "There's always [stuff] about me going on, so if someone's gonna interview her and she's gonna take most of the time, I think it's awesome."
And events probably render this question ridiculous, but I asked Chris Cooley whether he ever has any worries about random men gawking at images of his wife.
"I think that's an obvious answer: no," he said. "It's not like I'm like, Oh I hope a lot of guys go home and think about my wife. I mean, as long as someone's like, 'His wife's very pretty, that's really cool, she seems really nice.' That's what I want."
