Time to Make a Change, Obviously

(Via my television.)

Signs that something needs to change: Longtime fans using words like embarrassed and ashamed....Larry Michael--Larry Michael!--getting distraught on the air....former NFL players saying the Redskins have quit....current players questioning the play-calling on the sideline. I don't know what the change is--well, actually, I do--but obviously, something has to change.

(Actually, that was a stupid thing to write. Why does something have to change? I mean, it would be fun, I guess, but there's no law against teams occasionally having miserable years and going 5-11 or whatever. I think "Something has to change!' is reserved for the home game when no one shows up.)

Anyhow, a sampling of the carnage:

Michael Strahan on Fox's halftime show: "They've quit. The Washington Redskins have quit on the field."

John Riggins: In a series of post-game Tweets, he wrote this: "There are team specific issues for sure and some individual issues for sure but the owner ultimately is a loser and you can't fix the owner alot on the line in Detroit u invite Tom Cruise to the game and he is chatting up your Coach! what does this tell us about YOU!....u r Zorn..Head Detroit...alot on the line....and u r chatting up TomKat before the game...what does that tell us about YOU!!!"

Trevor Matich, on CSN's Postgame Live: "Beneath Rock Bottom. The only way it could have been worse if they would have been beaten by Maryland."

Brian Mitchell on CSN's Postgame Live: "They have a coach, a head coach who is very low key. He gives the little funny talks and he says things and he's honest. Can he get his damn team to play football? I don't think so.

[B-Mitch Cont]: "They lost, the fans booed last week, and people got mad at them. Well the fans deserve to be booing this team. And I think it's about time now. Dan Snyder, I'll say this, he spends money. That's all you really want your owner to do, spend money and be willing to do it. It's time for him to hire somebody who can run this football team. Start with a general manager, get you a coach that can get guys to play, because obviously right now, you don't have the right people in place....We're not hating. We love this football team. What I hate is seeing guys who get paid exorbitant amounts of money to go out here and [wet] the bed. I mean, they don't care. It truly bothers me, and there's too many guys on this team that go around this town or go around acting as if they are Tom Cruise. They're' big time. They're superstars. And they haven't done a damn thing on the field for this team."

[Later, he gave the coaching an F on his report card, and the defense an F-.]

Jon Jansen, on CSN: He said the win "couldn't have come against a better team." Also, if he had smiled any harder, all his teeth would have spontaneously popped out of his gums.

Larry Michael, in the first half: After using the terms "things falling apart" and "disastrous" to describe the Redskins, he said this: "The Lions have dominated this game. It pains me to say that, but they've dominated this game."

Doc Walker: At one point in the first half, the team's official radio sideline reporter said Phillip Daniels was trying to fire up teammates, but still described the mood as "false enthusiasm."

Dan Steinberg, on Friday: "Also, let me repeat this one more time: the Redskins will win this weekend, and I don't think it'll be close."

(Whoops! Seriously, that was bad. I tried and failed, and will not try again this season.)

Roger Mason: The former Wizards guard and huge Skins fan wrote this during and after the game: "I'm so embarrassed to a Redskins fan right now! What are we doing?....This is an all time low point in Redskins history..... I'm ashamed of my squad."

Clinton Portis: According to Chick Hernandez of CSN, the running back came to the sideline after the failed fourth-down run last week early in the first quarter, and said "Why run wide?"

Greg Blache, on CSN: "I think we're all at fault and we're all at blame....I knew coming in here that this was a dangerous football team and it was a very capable football team....Everybody in this league is pretty darn good and on any given Sunday they can get you, and our guys had to learn a bitter lesson today. Hopefully they'll learn something from it."

Jason Campbell, on CSN: "It was a tough loss, one that got away from us. We prepared all week, we were focused all week, and the game just seemed very strange. But in a lot of ways, this is a time that more than any time, is a sense of urgency for us to pull together."

[Normally I might mock this quote about nothing, but Campbell was the only Skins player who agreed to be on CSN's postgame show. Well, Campbell on Jon Jansen. That's just absurd.]

Larry Weisman: Here's something he reported: "[Tom] Cruise says his daughter loves the Redskins and always wears the Redskins pajamas the Snyders gave her."

I have hurt in my gut. A big hurt.

I still feel that the D has been a big issue all season, even more so today.

The Skins first drive was a thing of beauty: So what we came up empty? If the D puts us back on the field we keep that rhythm, instead the ions go 99 for the score. We get on more pay in the quarter. Even if we convert the 4th down, the most points we could have possibly scored in quarter 1 were 7.

Ditto for the Giants game, we had a one possession 1st quarter.

Lack of pressure begets lack of turnovers. Same as last year.

This sucks. Fire Zorn pleez and hire somebody who can make good calls! i.e. Mike shanahan or jon gruden .. hell even bill cowher. I think the best thing to do is fire zorn and make greg blache head coach and hire someone else next year.

Posted by: fsouderiv | September 27, 2009 5:15 PM | Report abuse

Dear Mr. Snyder,

Mike Shanahan told me he totally thinks you're cute. Let me know if you want his number.

Posted by: TheSuperhoo | September 27, 2009 5:22 PM | Report abuse

1st quarter, first possession, 4th and goal from the 2 and Zorn goes for it. If he had kicked the field goal we would have been down by 2 with 2:36 left in the game. We drove the ball down but a field goal wouldn't win the game bacause of Zorn's play calling. The offense and defense looked pathetic. What happened to our defense? We were supposed to be better with Haynesworth and Orakpo. I had predicted the Skin's would go 7-9 but I picked them to beat Detroit. Everyone else beats winless teams except the Skins. Fire Zorn and entire staff ASAP, with the exception of Bugel. Let him staff the team within a week and let him coach us the rest of the season. Its not like we are going win many more games. Fire Vinny and hire a real GM like Casserly or Wolf. Interview Russ Grimm in the offseason along with Shannahan, Dungey, Cower and pick the best out of them. No to Brian Billick. Waive Campbell, trade Portis for some O linemen or linebackers. Our coaches stink or can't motivate, communicate, inspire, convince, etc. our current players. Get rid of them now and start the rebuilding process so we can hit the ground running. We have nothing to lose.

Posted by: neil64 | September 27, 2009 5:22 PM | Report abuse

Now that the rant is done, Blache and the defense is a much greater disappointment than Zorn's offense. A little better balance and return to the run, and the O will be just fine. Defense cannot stop anyone.

keep campbell and sign him to a two year mediocre deal. FIRE ZORN. totally embarrassing, not going to work for fear of knocking someone out.

Posted by: saltine182 | September 27, 2009 5:26 PM | Report abuse

My fear is they will promote Gregory Blankstare. Um, yeah, the defense sucks too. Promoting that guy is the proverbial white flag. Campbell had a better game but Gawd DAMMM, could he fumble it more or throw more inopportune int's? Run him out too!! PLEASE!!!!!!!

The last time Detroit won a game George Bush was President. They won with a rookie QB!!! A new LOW for Washington. I don't know where to start....owner, GM, coach, players. Yall just screwed the pooch today!!!

Posted by: dc4life | September 27, 2009 5:34 PM | Report abuse

The entire organization has been a culture of losing for a long time now. It starts at the top and goes all the way down. Snyder must get out of the way and hire a new GM and a coach with some fire in his belly. The new coach is going to have to break these players down and build a cohesive team unit from the ground up. It's going to be a painful period of rebuilding but it must be done. Anyway, can't get much more painful than right now.

Posted by: bulk72 | September 27, 2009 5:43 PM | Report abuse

as a skins fan, i'm certainly disappointed because i try to analyze the game as much as possible and it's glaringly obvious that we have a very weak offensive line that gets no push. zorn calling a run play to the left is as easy to read as a doctor suess book. portis has the right to ask "why run left?" didn't we try that last week and fail miserably? why not a bootleg play? i'm also frustrated by now the defense is playing. the corners are playing too much finesse football instead of mugging within the first 5 yds from scrimmage. blache needs to stop rushing 5-7 guys b/c we still can't get to the opposing qb. just rush 4 and drop everyone else into coverage. to see the lions march 99 yds is unacceptable plain and simple. snyder needs to ditch cerrato. he's cancerous for the organization. cowher and shanahan will never come to this team as long as cerrato is part of the gm. us fans deserve more than this and i won't call for zorn's dismissal and i'll never ever say "bench campbell". i will say "kick cerrato to the curb". stop trying to buy a superbowl. build the team based on the successes patterns of teams that are consistently winning 9-10 games a season. get us some offensive and defensive linemen. daniel, stop undermining the organization by doing stupid stuff like hiring an offensive coordinator before hiring an actual head coach. that's how we got stuck with zorn's brilliance! i don't know what more to say but i'm sure many skins fans share the same sentiment. we can only pray the season gets better for us but the way things are going, who can tell.

cheif redskins fan...very well said...i've been a fan from the early 80s, so i know the pain...i like the 3 choices.
if snyder fires cerrato right now and not zorn, i think maybe, just maybe we could hit bottom....cerrato needs to go...then let zorn have go at it for the next 5 games....if nothing...can him
bring in a gm and a coach
BUT... if we as fans stop paying for this crap it will hurt snyder...its time to show him he is wrong....i cry daily
bring in parcells to fix the team...i would have hope then

thank god all of you fans are focussing on the real problem...the is snyder and cerrato not zorn
they were the ones to build this team...hiring coaches before head coach...its time to go back to old school and build this team
but until snyder realizes that, we are just gonna be in serious pain as fans
again...parcells can opt out of dolphins next year...bring him in for 3 yrs to build a real team....he is the ultimate fixer

The difference the Redskind had with Cooke was he built football personel around him to achieve successes...Snyder is a total lame excuse for a medeling Owner and had done nothing to build anything to achieve success... Tha is his 1st priority,KEEP OUT OF FOOTBALL OPERATION ...UNDERSTAND DAN.. next keep all draft picks and KEEP DAN AWAY FROM THE DRAFT.. 3rd New England has played year in year out with players that want to win, and achieve superbowls, not ask why Fans that pay their Salaries why they Boo a bad PROFESSIONAL player ie: played game buye these PROS.. something wrong at the Redskins Home front.. alll through each week the nightmare gets worse.. YOU took Lions lightly... huh how about i take ya pay check lightly, since us common folk would be chewed a new booty by our superiors for a stinking job... Player wake up.. maybe job security needs to be addressed.. I know lets trade some Skind and Maryland players ..see what happens next week for both teams.. Wow a whole lot osmelly football around D.c. this week Time to take out the trash Positve Point.. we can't get worse... only go upward hopefully.. unless we lose to a horrible Tampa team as welllll...aaaaahhhh

I am lucky enough to have experienced the three super bowls. But that is now a curse as I am forced to sit through these games. I just purchased NFL Sunday Tickey (here in Florida) to root for my beloved 'Skins. I thought Zorn would work out but now? Billick said something on TV about a person not showing urgency might be really cool or too foolish to realize the urgency. Zorn must go.

Time to get rid of the QB and head coach. The GM needs to go as well. Hire Jon Gruden and let him coach. Jon's hire will draw the right person for the GM job. Just be patient. You can't do much with personnel changes on the field right now anyway. Also, reinstate peanuts in the shell immediately at FedEx Field.

As a die hard, I am taking a stand Mr. Snyder.... you lost a football fan of the skins but NFL Football got a fan. The cool aid or "bleeding Burgandy and gold homers" say they live and die with this team. Well, since I could talk and comprehend football I have done the same thig but not anymore..... as long as Snyder owns this team and has his "short bus" brain on football decisions... I will not support them. I still love my football and that is what is going to keep my heart rate down on Sundays because every week for the last 10 years but especially the last 5, every Sunday has been more oft he same. No more $100 plus merchandise sale, no more $400 game day experience. NO MORE.... I can watch failure at home because that is what this organization is.... a complete failure! Don't worry Danny boy.... the revenue and loyalty will eventually dwindle... it might take a few more years but you keep running with this game plan and you'll see. BTW, why did we not throw the kitchen sink at a Rookie QB ???? I guess prevent from the word go is our standard. Lastly, I found it damn funny that Jansen was on CSN post game live interviewing, with a Lions hat on, with the biggest smile.... with the Redskins backdrop. Talk about the sweetest revenge!

Somebody please explain to me how Jimmy boy come close of business Monday, has a job. There is no way that with 8 sec left on the clock needing a touch down to win the game you never attempt a pass to the end zone. How is that? What kind of coaching is that? Why call plays that need a 1st down you throw the ball underneath and down the middle. Jim Z has to be by far the worst choice other than some of Danny's previous coaches he could have hired. Please FIRE him ASAP and hire someone new. Also; why in the hell do we not put a lot of emphasis on "special teams" play; like Va Tech. That will win you several games a year alone.

I do not understand how this defense let's Detroit convert 90% of its third downs with a rookie quarterback. If Zorn goes so should Blache. The overpaid and overhyped defensive line is garbage.
The offense wasn't so bad. I said a long time ago that Jason Campbell was not the biggest problem the 'Skins had.

Should've kicked the field goal on 4th and 1 in an way game period. Zorn seemed panicked in the 1st quarter. It is going to be an ugly season. Just glad I'm not a season ticket holder and actually paying thousands, during a recession, to see this mess.

It starts at the top. It stinks from the top.

Posted by: redskinfan4life1 | September 27, 2009 6:47 PM | Report abuse

The problem with firing Zorn at this point is that the same people who hired him will promote/hire his replacement. Do you really want Vinny C. to be the guy to hire our next coach? Aside from the owner, Vinny C. is the one constant on this team through 15 years of mediocrity, save for one season when Marty Schottenheimer fired him. The best possible scenario to come out of this debacle is for the owner to realize his front office management structure doesn't work and hasn't worked since he took ownership.

The team needs a bona fide, qualified general manager to come in and clean up the act from top to bottom. The GM needs to have real, genuine autonomy and authority to make football-related decisions. For years, I never thought it would happen. The owner is rich, stubborn and thinks he's always the smartest person in the room. Things are changing, though. We've had such a long dry run that there is an entire generation of potential Skins fans that have never seen them win any games of consequence. There is an extremely disgruntled fan base. Finally, there is a bad economy that will punish any overpriced product of poor quality. If the status quo continues, the punishment of this team by its fan base will be severe

Posted by: Kenbeatrizz | September 27, 2009 6:48 PM | Report abuse

I agree with John Riggins. Everything starts with the owner. Daniel Snyder has not been good for the Redskins ever since he took the team away from John Kent Cooke. He should not have fired Charlie Casserly. 99% of Daniel Snyder's hirings have been busts. Re-hiring Joe Gibbs was okay, but Joe Gibbs got some things wrong in his second stint; for instance, Joe Gibbs went right after Mark Brunnell while he had Patrick Ramsey on the team who was getting better and better; then he went after Jason Campbell. That's why it is good to have a general manager too. Joe Gibbs having Bobby Beathard and Charlie Casserly as general managers worked out very well. They provided checks and balances for each other.

the Defense needs to Blitz. Too conservative.

You want to see change? Stop going to the games and giving Snyder your hard earned money for a product that does not produce. As long as you bring him the $$$, what incentive does he have to change? None. When any other team in D.C. does bad, the fans speak by not parking their but at the arena. It may be tough, but boycott them and it will speak volumes.

Dan, great blog, as always. I'm a Michigan native, who now lives in Kansas. I did spend time in DC, and listen to the Junkies daily to get my fix of what I left behind.

Obviously, as a Lions fan, I was estatic today, but I am sympathetic to Washington fans for their frustrations. But here's a reality check - this Washington team isn't the worst in football. It's not a 2-14 team. It's pretty much a mediocre team. Isn't that what we expected from the beginning? I'm thinking about 7-9. That's not horrific. One of my pet peeves is when people start thinking the frustrations they have are unique to their fanbase, or that they're the most put-upon fans in the world. Get back to me when you go 50+ years without a title, or win one playoff game in that stretch.

Posted by: Fholz | September 27, 2009 6:58 PM | Report abuse

Look, I'm not going to come on here and rant-and-rave. Why would I? Anyone who did not see this coming is blind to what has been going on with this franchise over the last 10 years.

The simple fact is that firing the coach, changing quarterbacks, or having the team practice in full pads for the rest of the season will not address the problem.

Until Dan Snyder sells the Skins they are going to continue perform at a 7-to-9 win-per-season rate, with the occasional 10-win fluke or (like this year) a 4-win disaster thrown in. Changing coaches or signing free-agents is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

(In case anyone is confused, Dan Snyder is the iceberg in this scenario.)

Posted by: fan-o-matic | September 27, 2009 7:21 PM | Report abuse

What a disapointment. This team's performance grew from the seed of two plays in the first quarter. The failed and flawed 4th and one call on Detroit's 1 yard line and the offsides on the next play. A good NFL head coach would not waste a chance for an easy three points so early in the game after a good drive. Even after that, you have Detroit backed up on the 1 foot line and your defensive tackle, with the ball sitting in front of his nose, jumps offside giving the Lions breathing room. If there ever was a chance to shake this team up, it was then. Pull that player off the field. Keep him out for a series or two. We have plenty of defensive tackles. This coach can not handle pressure of the red zone nor the pressure of the fans, the media and the Redskins family of former players second guessing him. When you fail at these, you are in the wrong position. Poor ownership and lacking a general manager doesn't help either. You need good upper management to be able to select a good head coach.

Posted by: greggsol | September 27, 2009 7:25 PM | Report abuse

Jim Zorn needs to be fired. This is not a question at this point, it's an imperative, for the team has indeed quit on him. This personnel doesn't believe in/trust their head coach to call the right plays at the right time.

Zorn's comment that he would've sat Sonny Jurgensen if he had audibled out of the halfback option was the last straw for me. Why? The Redskins head coach would bench Peyton Manning! Yes, Manning calls a lot of audibles.

It's time for Jason Campbell to take a seat. He has just plain dropped the ball three times now (last week, he did it when he just barely avoided a safety). He zeroes in on his receivers and seems to only want to throw to Santana Moss - and Chris Cooley to bail him out. The guy looks like he's in a haze all the time. Campbell's a very nice Jeff George. Yes, he's got a great arm but lacks the materials above the shoulders.

Start from scratch. Start over. There's a heck of a lot of talent on this team. It just needs the right stewardship, and Zorn and Campbell are not the men for the jobs.

Finally, Jon Jansen was partially responsible for the Skins downward turn last season, because he couldn't pass block worth a darn!! He lost his starting job to Stephon Heyer and now he has the nerve to gloat? He's a jerk.

I'm ashamed to be a redskins fan today..I know it will not last 'cause I love this team but I really believe it's time for a change...
1.- Fire Zorn and bring an experience coach I would like M. Schottenheimer.
2.- Give the new coach all the authority to make every football decision (who stays, who leaves, etc.)
3.- Create a timetable for success, ie. in 3 years we at least have to go to playoff or in 4 win the NFC.
4.- Share the information with the fans

It's time to rebuild for real... We as fans can presure Snyder to do so. How???
Lets not go to the next game let the team play in an empty stadium so they can feel the pain too

This was the most pathetic excuse for a team outing I have seen in my 15+ years as a Redskins fan. There is no fire whatsoever in the team, and this all falls in the hands of Jim Zorn. He is NOT a head NFL coach, this was proven starting from week 9 of last year. He doesn't have the ability to motivate or discipline players and noone respects him, hands down. Campbell was very solid, no matter what his haters will say about this game. Rip the bandaid off and fire Zorn ASAP.

The Skins need to start over from scratch. Here is what they need for a fresh start:

1. Change their racist name
2. Change their idiot owner
3. Change their amateur head coach
4. Change their no-confidence quarterback

I'd like to add a very important comment. And this is as much for the entire coaching staff and 53 man roster: Long after any of you are working for the Washington Redskins, we, the fans, will be supporting the team. We hurt more than anyone collecting a paycheck in Burgundy and Gold ever could. Many of us have been fans for well more than 20 years. Does anyone on the team even come close to that number?

Posted by: DanielNoble | September 27, 2009 7:39 PM | Report abuse

So now it is obvious that Dan Snyder will have some sleepless nights. I doubt that he will fire Vinny Cerrato so this is what I believe in the weeks to come will happen. If the Redskins do not win their next three games or lose at least two of them Zorn will be gone. Especially if it seems that he has no control over the team. Dan Snyder will then hand the team over to Greg Blache, let Jason call his own plays while they watch film after film on Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy and Jahvid Best. Oh by the way they will flip a coin for Mike Shanahan or Jon Gruden.

Posted by: raystitt810 | September 27, 2009 7:44 PM | Report abuse

I have to agree with Riggins. The owner is a loser and unfortunately he isnt going to fire himself which he should. No head coach with any experience is going to work for this Jack#ss Snyder. He might as well just put all the Super Bowl trophies from back when this was a proud franchise up on ebay. He is just in this for the glorified $$$ anyway. The BEST thing that could happen is for people to BOYCOTT by not buying any Skins merchandise or not go to games but we all know thats not going to happen. It is VERY VERY SAD.....

One more thing... It is sad, damn sad when my 16 yr old son says, I don't think I will ever see my skins will win the Super Bowl..
After today he is wondering about seeing us win a playoff game!

We can't give Danny but we can fire VINNIE!!!!

If they fire Zorn and make Blacchhh the head coach, I quit. I mean, this defense is terrible. It reminds me of, what year was it, 2006 I think when they opened against Brad Johnson and he completed something like 10 of 12 3rd down opportunities. How many times can teams continu to pick up 3rd and longs before you adjust whatever the heck you're doing? MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS!

Posted by: NickFairfax | September 27, 2009 7:53 PM | Report abuse

Lets start by saying FIRE VINNY CERANO!!!!! Next, Dan Snyder.... BUTT THE HECK OUT.... WE GET IT... YOU OWN THE TEAM.... BUT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE (as history has plainly shown). You have done a great job of driving fans away and making the Redskins the butt of many a joke. Its time to take your hands off and hire a competent coach (Mike Shanahan) so the Redskins can return to their full potential.

Wow!!! WE SUCK!!!! Ok time out!!! This DEFENSE SUCKS!! That is worst then this OFFENSE!!! Why does this team have so many players that don't quit, they quit on some plays and the other team always finds the guy that is going half speed and they take advantage. It's weak 3 and now we redskin faithful are ready for a CHANGE!! HOW ABOUT EVERYONE PLAYING HARD EVERY DOWN!! Do we run the ball straight or to the left? And stop apologizing and start playing football COME ON REDSKINS WE SUCK!!!

I have read alot of these posts and I think anyone who says get rid of Portis is an idiot! He is the best player on the team. He has no line though. Portis with any other line in the league would be the man. He blocks like nobody else does in the backfield, in the league! He can run like a horse. The problem is play calling. 4th and goal, did you think anyone in watching, playing, coaching didnt know they were going to run to the right. Its the same crap over and over again. Football is like chess, not checkers. Be creative! Also if Tomkat is going to be on the sidelines. Can he please teach Jason Campbell how to act!! Please for once this season do not telegraph your recievers, look them off, pump fake, act injured please something!! This team is see through. Very predictable. Very high schoolish! Im sick of going to game after game paying big money for a team that has nothing new accept another huge contracts.

Don't know how many more skins games I can watch. I'm far from a fair weather fan but this has been going on too long and no relief in site. I'm glad Snyder will spend the the money. However, he gets terrible advise on which players to spend it on. At bare minimum Vinny has to go. And that's being nice.

Someone must have copped this headline already, but "Washington Bails Out Detroit--Again" struck me as pretty apt. Zorn a problem, for sure, but I watch ace QBs like Favre and Brady and even Stafford today and I see the killer instinct in their eyes. I watch Jason and see a worried man, if not a deer in the headlights. If the field leader can't feel and convey the need for a one on the field will. Will have to see analysis of Jason's orchestration of that late scoring drive...might reconsider...but watch his eyes.

They are BAD. Losers. Quitters. Poorly managed. Poorly coached. Poorly motivated.

I no longer care about them. It's time for me to sadly move on.

Well, Snyder owns the team, so we can't fire him, but if Snyder doesn't fire Vinny, then Snyder really doesn't give s--- about his fan base. All of this starts with the GM. He makes personnel decisions, hires coaches and make draft picks. How has that worked in the Vinny era? No objective observer of the Redskins thinks Vinny is worth a damn. Zorn and Campbell are being vilified for Vinny and Dan's failing. DUMP VINNY now.

2. He MUST fire Cerrato and hire a competent GM. Come on, Dan, dont you want this team to win??? Look at how they acted in the first half. STOP with this Tom Cruise crap if you are going to get involved-which now you should not!
3. You have lost some fan base because you only care about the Dollar. Time to sell the team, then.

Heartless players, wealthy beyond their fans wildest dreams, and a coach who cannot motivate.

Mindless fans, who blame the qb - when in a no huddle situation we pass our way down the field in seconds.

A scummy owner and bumbling sidekick who have effectively mangled a franchise with a never ending series of idiotic decisions.

To all of you, I'd like to quote one poignant and outspoken colleague of mine who said:

As a former fan of the Lower Potomac Indigenous Peoples (and now a pure detester), I am simply overjoyed and ecstatic about this loss and couldn't be happier.

Has anyone ever heard the saying in sports "you have to lose before you win?" Maybe, just maybe after this loss and others and taken into account 10+ years of futility under the watch of the sketch comedy duo of Snyder/Cerrato, the Peoples fans/useful idiots/hopeless lemmings (who buy tickets, merchandise, cheer for the Peoples, generally put their money in Snyder's pocket, etc., NO MATTER WHAT) will finally wake up and quit supporting with their dollars and emotions this sorry excuse for a sports organization.

I personally cannot wait for a team whose name rhymes with "Jashington Hapitals" who actually know how to run a team, treat its fans, has an owner who makes himself accountable to the public, put people who know what their doing in control, and put Ws on the board start their season. ROCK THE RED AND TO HELL WITH THE BURGUNDY AND GOLD!

On a side note, I feel very bad for Jim Zorn and Jason Campbell. Both are good decent men and both can take comfort in the fact that they are in an impossible situation where it is next to impossible to win. Furthermore, Campbell was the only Indigenous People who had the guts to show up and take his medicine in the CSN postgame show. That tells me about the quality of his character.

I'm in the same boat as dlenehan...can't take much more. I've worn the burgandy and gold every Sunday since leaving the DC area 15 years ago. Whether LA or now Park City, Utah I purchase my direct TV NFL package and plan my Sunday around my team. I'm officially done. I can't stomach this one more season. Unless I see a major change in direction starting with "Vinnie" being removed I will bycott this poor excuse for a team and find another.

In my opinion this all starts and ends with Cerrato. His player-personnel decisions would have gotten most GM's fired by now. Where's the punter he signed with a good mid-round pick in the draft before last?? How can a team that has always prided themselves in running the football enter this seasn with the same Oline subtract Jansen add Dockery and fat Mike Williams? It's a freakin circus. Hey -I blame Danny boy as well but he owns the team and we're stuck with him.

I want to see the house cleaned once and for all. Zorn - nice guy but not a leader. His staff - the same. Again VC - GM - God awful. Get rid of him. If I have to suffer watching this fiasco year-in-year-out then overhaul the whole damn thing and find a coach with experience and testicles with a ring or 2 that can control Dan S while managing this team. I could stomach another break-even or even losing season if I actually saw a change in direction, strategy and philosphy. But to endure the same ol' crap avery season is too much to ask. Please...REBUILD...DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAT MAKE"S SENSE!!!!

I'll wrap this vent. we need an O-line and we need to look at other options at RB. We have 3 RB's that all run the same way. They also have miles on them. Get some younger RB talent and sign runners with different styles so we can actually deploy a RB by committee strategy with change-up backs. look around the freakin leauge and look at what the winners are doing without giving away ridiculous contracts for average or even poor performance. The End..........

I guess the defense was a surprise.
Does anyone actually think things will improve?
Zorn, the line, the QB, and now the defense... is just not worth the money that has been spent or the belief that has been tendered by us fans.

My friend (also lifelong fan) wants to somehow blame Jason....BS...It totally comes down to coaching. FIRE EVERYONE!!!! except Danny Smith..RIGHT NOW!!..TODAY!!!!!. Give Zorn a Greyhound Bus ticket back to anywhere BUT DC. I'm not spending any more money at fedex to watch what I saw today. Here's the bottom line, and it is what hurts. While Zorn never should have been hired, firing him won't fix the problem. It starts and ends with a man named Dan Snyder who has demonstrated he is a terrible owner. It starts at the top, and the misery won't end until Snyder sells the team, or has some kind of epiphany, gets rid of Ceratto, brings in a true GM, and let's the man run the team, tearing it apart and starting over. Since I don't see that happening, I've been slowly distancing from the Redskins for the last few years, fortunately, and I suspect others will as well. Sorry...not an encouraging situation, but sanity begins with facing up to reality.

Why is anyone despensing advice? These morons(Snyder/Cerrato/Cruise) will not listen. JC Fans, come on, tell us how great he was!
Dan/Vin - You tell us how sorry you are, better yet, how you care about your fan base. Please tell us because i'm so sad right now, i'm in desperate need for a good laugh!
Clinton, how about you? You feeling good about what your doing? Smart, you are. This time around you won't publicly voice your displeasure but you will prove it with a sub par performance on the field! Sad part is, you got some of your teamates to join you in your quest!
Cambell, get over yourself, man! You should consider yourself lucky they didn't replace you with Sanchez or Cutler! By the way, your not doing anything to prove to the public, they shouldn't have done that! Could it be your not sure of the plays? Could it be, you haven't a clue how to read defenses? Could it be, you haven't a clue where all your receivers are? Could it be, your about as scared as a freshman looking for a starting job? Could it be, all of the aforementioned apply to your abilities? I think...YES!
To the rest of the team, EXCLUDING LONDON FLETCHER, you should be just as disappointed in your selves as your fan base is in you, for following such a bunch of degenerate atheletes(if the shoe fits) and destroying any shred of dignity this team MAY have had, before entering this game. I hope you read all about it and if you can't read... have someone read it to you. I'm sure you'll feel the way(the fans) do! Unless your no better than your owner and his meddling idiots and all you want is.."To Get paid"!
The bunch of you make me sick and embarrased to be a Redskins Supporter!
Why don't you complete the kill by trading away your only hope... Colt Brennan. That would be a nice way to end it! Excuse me now, i'll have to throw up my food and my pride from being a Redkins fan!

I am tired of all the smoke screens & outright lies Skins fans have been fed for the last several years by Cerrato & Snyder. This IS the lowest point in Skins history. Zorn & Cerrato need to be fired asap. Campbell cannot lead, so he needs to go too & while we're at it, bench Portis, let him sit, and let the young & healthy guys who actually WANT to play hard play.

Dan Snyder isn't going anywhere ... he knows how to make $$$$ and he knows that while the FEDEX Faithful, while they will grumble and complain over the team's persistent mediocrity, in the end he knows that they will be loyal to their team and will continue to prey on that loyalty all the way to the bank!

As for a Shanahan or Cowher coming here to coach ... Not gonna happen! High caliber coaches like them will want one thing that Danny can't (and won't) give them ... total control of football operations. The Skins are his play thing.

It's time for Danny Boy to stop running this team like a hobby shop, hire a first class GM modeled around the other successful teams, make Cerrato the towel man, or better yet fire his butt, hire a coach who can lead and win and get down to putting a championship team together. They have quit, and let the fans down. They need tolet their play on the field do all the talking & at this point, obviously, they have nothing to say. Stop all the interviews...they are pointless, & full of lies. Get players in here that want to play football, & win. Stop all this nonsense of trying to sound good & make excuses for everything. We need leaders, & right now, we have NONE; not the coach, not Vinny, & not the QB. Start Collins next week, give him a quarter, & if he's not getting it done, bench him too.

charronegro71, in my opinion you are the most perceptive commenter so far.

We are now the anti-Hogs.

You can have the all-star QB and all-star RBs and wide receivers. Heck, not just all-star, all-time. Give me an O-line that handles their D-line and a D-line that handles their O-line, and I will win almost every time. That is what the Hogs should have taught us - c'mon, Timmy Smith a Super Bowl MVP?

Listen up, Mr. Snyder - GOOD LINE PLAY is the difference between winners and losers.

Well, THE SKINS ARE NOW THE WORSE TEAM IN PRO FOOTBALL ... including the Raiders ... I've been a Redskins fan since 1967 and right now this is the lowest I've felt in reference to the team. It starts at the top and works it way down... as long as the skins keep the same setup with the owner and 'pres of football operation' in place... they will NEVER be important in the NFL again... they will continue to be a group of over hype-players .. Who don't really know that they are not as good as they believe they are... it comes from the picking of FAs... the trading of Draft Picks ... the Drafting of players who we don't need or can't play and the hiring of the merry-go-round of coaches who can not coach .. The skins continue to make the same mistakes (bad play calling ... penalties to name a few) over and over again... year after year... Washington Redskins have hit rock bottom

Its on the coaches and players. First of all they play with no passion or fire. The coaching is questionable at best, the defense is an embarassment the freaking Detroit lions were 9 of 12 on third down?

How does the Redskinn defense allow the freaking Lions to drive 99 yards down the field?

Andre Carter and Phillip Daniels need to be benched along with the corners.

Why is Betts a 3rd dow back he brings nothin gto the table absolutely nothing. I lik eJC but why was he only focused on Moss whe others were open all game long.

For the owner to truly understand the fans feelings .. the skins fans need to stop buying Redskins merchandise .. going to training camp .. stop paying for the over-price seats .. (oh .. that's right .. the owner will sue you if you can't pay for those seats) .. as long as the owner continues to receive money from this Redskins fan base ... he will never change!

Hello skins nation, what's left of it. I was at the game. I'm not that upset at the end of the day. This moment has been building for the last 10 years. Snyder proves once again he has no idea on how to build a winner. Let's not draft a defensive lineman in the 1st round. Last time was 1997. Let's not draft a offensive lineman in the 1st round. Last time was 2000. No pass rush whatsoever. If you give a QB 8 seconds to throw the ball, he'll find someone wide open everytime. Horrible. We can't run block this season. Only 64 yards rushing, not gonna cut it.

Campbell played good today. 340 yards passing along with 2 TD passes, what else do you want him to do? Zorns play calling was shaky again. Should've thrown the ball on 4th & goal instead of another portis run. All Zorn can do is use the players at his disposal. Zorn is a new head coach and you should expect him to struggle.

Like someone said earlier Zorn ain't the problem. Campbell isn't the problem. One thing I noticed on the bench, Haynesworth didn't talk to any of his teammates, not good. I guess it's ok since he's the 100 million dollar man.

The danny boy & vinnie show has failed, the only way out is to hire a REAL GM. Danny isn't selling this team, no matter how bad things get. All I can say is stop buying season tickets and stop buying the merchandise. I want to see blackouts for the skins games. Maybe then danny boy will stop suing his own fanbase.

I see Zorn being canned and Campbell not being resigned. They'll hopefully get signed with a real NFL franchise. The Snyder show will continue to be a losing one. Lonnnnngggg season.

You know why we won with Mark Rypen, he was sacked only 9, yes 9 times, and hurried even less his superbowl season. As for Zorn, he doesnt have the anger and zest to get after his team. The team quit on him today...its time to part ways. Don't worry about things falling apart, we just lost to the lions, it cant get any worse. New O line players, some new D players and a new coach. And please get rid of that idiont Cerrato...

I've been a Skin's die hard fan for over 30 years, but it's just too painful to watch them right now. Losing to the lowly Detroit Lions. I blame Vinny Cerrato and Dan Snyder more than I blame Zorn. I lay the blame for all of our woes on Jack Kent Cooke. He structured his estate in such a way that his son John could not pull together enough money to successfully bid for the team. So the Milstein group (remember the Milsteins?) won the competition but the NFL did not accept their financial proposal. So... a junior partner in the Milstein group, D. Snyder put together a new group and lo and behold, he won! That, my friends, launched the Redskins into a downward death spiral from which it seems they can never recover.

Daniel Snyder needs to hire true football brass, a competent GM, and stick to marketing the team. We need a coach that understands situational football as well as players who buy into the team first mantra. Their is a plethora of qualify coaches out there to court (Tony Dungy, Bill Cower, Bill Parcels) but each will demand skilled professional to work behind the scenes. It's a shame that a team that plays in a city that I love would accept mediocrity as its identity. I need a owner who cares less about his persona and more about the accountability, character, and passion of his staff and players. "Hail to the Redskins"

Posted by: eedwards1 | September 27, 2009 9:50 PM | Report abuse

Pitiful, but not surprising. I think the Caps loss was a worse loss because it was the playoffs, all the Redskins did today was reaffirm that they are going to be insignificant again. The Defense was horrible today and made a rookie look like a franchise QB that had arrived. The offense has stunk for so long extending back into GibbsII that we have forgotten what a real offense is. Lots of folks want to blame Snyder and the lack of a GM may be to blame, but ultimately the players have to play and the coaches have to coach and neither are doing very well. If I was GM, I would say goodbye to Zorn, Campbell, Portis and find some defensive backs that can cover. I also think the skins got jobbed by the refs in this one. If that wasn't a facemask on Moss, then Norton didn't commit pass interference. The Redskins weren't the only thing putrid on the field today. So were the refs.

Just think if Snyder made the obvious choice when he picked the recent coach and made GREG WILLIAMS the coach. We would have some consistency and we would have had a coach that wouldn't take any BS from anyone. Zorn is too soft - I dont hate him, but he doesnt inspire the players.

Posted by: cdepp | September 27, 2009 10:00 PM | Report abuse

I've been a season ticket holder for 30 years; this may be the worst moment in all that time. At least it wasn't on national television.

Good NFL owners, like Bob Kraft, the Rooneys, and even Jack Kent Cooke knew that the secret to success was to hire the best possible GM, Coach and front-office personnel and then get the hell out of the way.

Bad NFL owners, like the late Bill Bidwell, Al Davis and Dan Snyder treat their teams like their own personal toys.

Snyder can spend billions of dollars and it will do no good, because he is spending the money on the wrong personnel and he is too dumb to understand it.

Exhibit A for this year: As good as Albert Haynesworth is, we should have used the money to build the O line back up to the point that we could pound the ball on the ground and protect Jason Campbell. Any good football man would have told Snyder exactly that, and a good owner would have listened.

Just pray that Snyder finally realizes his meddling is killing the team and turn over the Redskins to real football people again.

Let's not forget - Zorn was originally hired as an assistant, and promoted to head coach once every other candidate turned down the job.

Let's face it, there isn't one quality coach, or up and coming coach that is going to risk their career to work for Danny and Vinny.

And let's face, Dan isn't a great business man. You can't pay all this money for talent that goes bust, sue your fans, wreck companies like six flags, and purchase a radio station that can't reach half your market and expect to stay in business.

The business world is littered with people like Danny who are leveraged to the hilt and then go bust.

Snyder has run the Skins as well as he has run Six Flags. They are in bankruptcy and so should the Team on the field.

Snyder and Jerry Jones spend all their money on the team and run the team themselves. Only one playoff win between them. The Giants and Eagles are laughing at us and the Cowboys.

I'm sure we can all long as Snyder is the owner, we will never see another championship. The only way to hurt Dan is when he's not making money. Show up and support the team, but don't buy any concessions or souveniers. That's where he's making the true money. I know, all of this is easier said than done; and that's really the only thing we can do as a fanbase. Complaining and venting won't get us anywhere with him except make us feel somewhat better.

Steve hits it square on the head. Snyder is running this organization like a whiny brat who is completely unaware of how a football team works.

What this team needs is an offensive line. Not only will it allow us to actually have a running game, but it will also protect JC and make him confident enough in his abilities as a QB so that in instances where the OL is banged up or struggling, JC will make the right decisions. I would focus the next season on OL draft picks and OL trades/free agent pickups.

God, I can't believe it's still September and I'm already talking about next season...

As frustrated as we all are with our team and our coach, firing Zorn is the last thing we need right now. The lions may have lost 19 in a row, but this is a COMPLETELY different football team than the one that went 0-16 last year. They have an entirely new defense with different players they acquired in the offseason, a new quarterback, a new coach...and as bad as this loss looks right now, it may not look nearly as bad at the end of this year if the lions end up with a respectable record. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this was a good team we lost too...but it wasn't the worst team in the NFL (and neither are we).

Don't give up on this team. We CAN recover from this.

I cannot believe some of you people are still blaming the redskins problems on Jason Campbell. The man throws for 340 yards, two touchdowns and his team loses the game. He made plays consistently, especially when he called his own plays. The defense, allowed another 100+ yard rushing day, allowed Detroit to convert just about every 3rd down and did not get any pressure on the QB, a freaking rookie. And another thing, our million dollar baby got a boo boo.

Let's see, the skins spent $100+ million on defensive players between Orakpo, Haynesworth and can't cover anyone Hall.

They pick up one offensive lineman and still the two WR's from last year don't scare anyone.

JC came to play, he proved that if given the opportunity to do his thing, he can play and play as well as anyone in the league.

Snyder is an idiot, plain and simple. Anyone of us could make better decisions than him or Cerrato.

Zorn, when you have an opportunity to put points on the board, especially early in the game, YOU DO IT.

In closing, Zorn, Cerrato and Snyder are your problem. Our team is aging, their personnel decisions have killed us. All these other so called great QBs, Sanchez, Cutler, etc have put up no better numbers than JC, difference is they all have dominating Defenses that keep people off the field. Hell Detroit had the ball the whole first half because of the defense.

If Dan Snyder really wants things on the field to improve. He has to fire himself, and bring in someone to run the football operation. A real GM. All the fans have said it countless times, maybe losing to the previously worst team in the NFL will finally get it to sink into him.

Dear owner: i have been a Redskin fan all my life and this is not the worst of times. it marks a new beginning for the Redskins because this is a good team, now that they have hit the bottom let them play and earn there respect because it takes a good team to be on the bottom first in order to be able to move up to the top, they needed this, and for now on we will see a team that has no where to go but up. keep them all and tell them now is the time that teams will not take them to be serious, so lets start kicking some ass and taking names. make them wear there old redskins uniforms from the 70s, because they need an new look to go with there new hostal attitude. keep the coach too, he has no where to go but up from here. its time. dont make any changes, because they have just become a good team. i beleive that they can do it and you should too. my grandfather once told me to earn everything i get in life. so now i am telling you the Owner! you have a team now that can earn there way and not be given the title first.

If Snyder would stay out of the way and fire Vinny, Zorn, Blache, then sell the Team, maybe the Redskins will be able to put a decent team together. This is worst than 60's before Coach Lombardi coached the Skins to 500 season. Zorn is a QB coach who's over his head and Greg Blache is the worst defensive coach the Skins ever had. Nuff said!

As a lifelong Redskins fan (40 years) this has to be the lowest I have felt towards the team I can honestly remember. What disgusted me the most was the teams "effort" in the first half, if that's what you want to call it. The whole game the play calling was atrocious, especially the 4th down call and the final play was just amateur (for lack of a better word) - crap like that does not work in the NFL. Anyways, now that I have got that out of my system, I am sure glad I decided not to shell out the $$$ for season tickets when I got the letter from Ashburn. Heck, I don't even think I would go if offered free tickets. This team is not worth the investment of my time and effort driving down from Baltimore and dealing with all the hassles going to a game involves. I NEVER thought I would feel that way and it's amazing to me. I seriously hope the fans BOOOOOOO the team next week when they make the Bucs look like the 72 Dolphins. The problem starts at the top, but unfortunately there is nothing we (as fans) can do about it. Too bad the problem at the top doesn't look at the excellent role model across town, Ted Leonsis, for direction/advice/etc on how to run a team, build a winner and generate goodwill with the community and loyal fans. That's just one reason why I am sooooo excited for the Capitals to start the season and I am looking forward to making the trip to the MCI Center to catch a few games. I feel much better now.

Nickel Snatcher Snyder and sock puppet lagdog Cerrato both have to look inwardly here. Everybody in this blog at the begining of the season and even as far back as draft day were saying to themselves, are they going to draft competent offensive linemen or acquire linemen as free agents in the offseason?

They did neither. Snyder now must Man up and realize he knows absolutely nothing about running a team so he ought to do the same that Jerry Jones, Robert Kraft and all the other owners have done and hire a competent General Manager that is not a leg humper like Cerrato and is not a yes man to his boss. Skins fans ought to consider boycotting the next home game and next year it would not surprise me in the least to see attendance and season ticket holders to turn in their tickets. There used to be a huge waiting list for season tickets but that has changed, and now it is easier to watch them at home and when they start to get blown out at the end of the first quarter the option is to go outside and cut the grass. Snyder and Cerrato both suck. Zorn is the whipping boy.

If Coach Zorn has any balls he will establish the new policy "Play hard or sit the bench period" we can lose with 2nd string players. The real Fans don't mind losing. Its the manner at which these losses come - "NO HEART, NO HUNGER, NO PASSION" equal NO WINS! I'm going to buy myself Ray Lewis jersey tomorrow because the Ravens remind me of the days when the B-Mitchells, Charles Manns, Dexter Manley and Riggo's all the way to Mark Mosely (yes, the kicker)played with HEART, HUNGER and PASSION and got WINS! One thing to remember about the coaching -
The Skins paid Gregg Williams a $1 MILLION DOLLAR PENALTY when he was not chosen to succeed Gibbs.

Williams had been an awesome D-coordinator for Washington. He's now the D-coordinator of the 3-0 New Orleans Saints.

Who on earth is dumb enough to pay $1m to let talent get away? Williams also brought London Fletcher with him, who continues to be the #1 professional on the team, making 10+ tackles every week.

It's wonderful and unusual in life when people actually get what they deserve. This is Snyder's team, and this is what he deserves...

During the offseason, almost NO COACHES WOULD COME TO DC because of the way Turner was treated. Practically everyone associated with Jimmy Johnson and Turner which is most of the NFL, refused to interview. Numerous excellant candidates have been lost due to poor management with trigger fingers. If Zorn is axed now, and no further changes are made to the front office, noone qualified will with any brains would even consider the Redskin job. All that should happen now is that a young hungry and qualified GM or Bobby Beathard should be hired and given cart blanche responsibility. Everyone chill out.

For all you complainers (rightly so) the solution is simple. However, whether you have the backbone or guts to see it thru is questionable.

To get rid of Snyder,

(1) Immediately stop buying all Redskins merchandise. BUY NOTHING.

(2) Stop listening to his radio stations. With a zero listeners, Snyder will be unable to sell ads to fund his operations.

(3) Stop going to the ballgames even though you have spent thousands of dollars purchasing season tickets.

Not only will you screw-up the man's cash flow, but the team located in the Capital of the nation will become an EMBARRASSMENT to the parent corporation (NFL) and it will put EXTREME pressure on Dan Snyder to sell the team.

That is the solution and the only question is will the Redskin fans find the requisite resolve to do it?

"We got a lot of people in here who think they're better than they are," cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. "You can look at that [game] and tell. It's not practice. This isn't the preseason. This is the real deal, and . . . there's a lot of guys running around in here who think they've arrived -- and [they] haven't made a play in this league."

This is a total meltdown. No one person is to blame. It is a team loss but the coaching and ownership shares in the failure of this overpaid team to perform at even a mediocre level. As has been pointed out by everyone, Jim Zorn's decisions continue to be foolish and against sound reason. The Redskins win if he takes an easy field goal and accepts the penalty giving the Lions a field goal instead of 7 points. Of course I am Monday morning quarterbacking but if you listen to ball coach you get a sense of the problem and that is over confidence in the talent and effort of his team. He feels they can run the ball in despite the fact that Detroit knows that Randy Thomas is gone and they are likely to run left instead of right. He declines a penalty that would give Detroit a probable field goal on the rationale that his defense will stop Detroit? Where did that confidence come from? Jason Campbell continues to lack the skills, command of the field of play, and overall talent to take a team to the next level of competition. This game is a case study in how stupid fantasy football is although I am an avid player. I see Campbell among the leaders this morning in fantasy stats? What a joke? For the second straight week he padded his numbers at the end of the game when Detroit was in a prevent defense. Their receiving corps is arguably the worst in football. Where was the pass rush yesterday? Joe Theisman says this morning that he saw a spark of urgency in the second half. I agree but professional football teams have a spark of urgency for the whole game. Blaming the media is bullcrap too. The media, to a large extent, are extensions of the frustration of the fans. Are the media negative, sure, but that is true everywhere. The sad truth is that despite Dan Snyder's willingness to invest in talent, there have been a string of bad decisions on player acquisitions. Salaries are way out of line for the level of talent on this team. They need a different coach: one who will actually bench a quarterback if the situation so dictates. Todd Collins has yet to take a snap on a team that stinks.

The Washington Redskins have an owner who knows nothing about football, so he has his cousin Vinny "running" the football operations.

The Washington Redskins have an owner who knows nothing about football and is totally meddlesome, which made it impossible to hire a qualified coach, so he hired a nice guy who has never called a play in his NFL coaching career.

The Washington Redskins have an owner who knows nothing about football, is star-struck, and rich, so he gives $100 million to an overrated defensive lineman - trying to win the offseason yet again.

The Washington Redskins have an owner who knows nothing about football and sees the fans as revenue stream, so he sells thousands of highly-desired lower deck seats directly to scalpers.

Need I continue? It's pretty clear what the problem is. Unfortunately, you can't fire the owner.

this team has been horrible for 17 years starting with bad norv turner. that was before snyder owned the team. zorn is no more of head coach than norv was. cannot get his players to play. campbell can not win because he can not get his eyes off of one receiver throwing into heavy coverage when other receivers are wide open. can not blame it on protection anymore. stats are great for a qb but he has to start having the ability to look over the field. the defense played worse than the offense this time. i will not buy mercahandise anymore but i will root for the team no matter what. heavy and sad heart today.

I quit on this team just like it has quit giving a total effort on the field. If you continue to back this team you are part of the problem. BOYCOTT THE REST OF THE SEASON OR NOTHING WILL CHANGE!!!!

Posted by: hessone | September 28, 2009 8:57 AM | Report abuse

Unfortunately this team has been headed to this point since Snyder became owner and there is no reason to expect that he will change now. Total disfunction. This is a textbook example of how to ruin an NFL team.

One thing that really disturbed me after the game. The camera showed the players mingling on the field and several Redskins were smiling and waiving to the crowd as though they has just won the game (Hunter Smith was the only number I caught). They should all be cut today.

Mr. Snyder,

Is there some point where you say, "This is enough"? How many season does it take it take to figure out that a QB is sub-marginal at best? How many systems does it take? Jim Zorn may be a nice guy, but it is apparent to all 6.2 billion people on this planet he is inept as a head coach. I applaud the chance you took when hiring him. He has shown success at other levels. It obvoiously did not pay off. Lets move on instead of hoping the highly unlikely will occur. I could do a better job with zero experince and I will work for a lot less. As alway, a loyal fan.

I was at the game. I struggled keeping my anger in bay. There was nothing more embarrassing then walking back to my car while a bunch of Detroit Lions fans yell the Redskins suck....Portis sucks....I had a Portis jersey on. What sucked the most was that, I felt they were right. I've been a Redskin fan since 1977, I buy the NFL Sunday Ticket just to watch the Skins play. I've done this for about 8 or 9 years now. I debated about not doing it this year, but thought the Redskins were going to really be something this year, and I was right, they are something. I've never been to frustrated to begin a season like I am this year. I am so tempted to call directv and cancel the NFL Sunday ticket and not getting it again Snyder is either gone or there is an organizational change in attitude. When we lose it sits with me for a few days. I feel optimistic for the next game, and BAM!!!! The play like crap and the trend continues. It's sad when I cannot even enjoy a victory because I know that the Skins do not compare to other teams that just seem to find ways to win most weeks. The Skins find ways to lose each week. This has been they're trend for so many years now. Maybe the problem is I care too much and the Redskins don't.

The player leadership not the coaching on this team needs to step up and kick it in gear. JC played a great game. But he cannot overcome coaching deficiencies. I have never seen a defense miss so many tackles in a game. The defense not the offense lost this game. When you allow another team to have 75% success on 3rd down, that leaves little time for your offense to make plays. Snyder needs to fire somebody for this debacle. Vinny is the guy.

SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION (from the rest of the NFL)

1) If you decide to go for it on 4th and goal at the 1, you have a ProBowl fullback... USE HIM!

2) You have 3rd and 8, make sure you tell your receivers to run 9-yard patterns, not 7!

3) The other team can convert 3rd and 8 because our secondary is 10 yards downfield before the snap!

4) We can't pressure or even confuse a rookie QB - Petitbon use to have those guys for lunch!

5) Orakpo was drafted to be a pass rusher - let him do that and end the LB experiment - no one else is getting to the QB!

6) Has you heard of the "Hail Mary"? If you throw the ball to the endzone, you never know what might happen - just ask Brett Favre!

We have problems on both sides of the ball, but I believe that our Defense has been probably the worst that I have ever seen. My opinion is to Fire Greg Blache because he is one of the worst defensive coaches that I have seen. His Schemes are terribly and with the Talent that we have we should be shutting teams down. I believe our Offense is almost there and if our defense could just stop somebody and give more opportunities to our Offense then we should be OK!

ASHBURN, VA -- The word from Redskin Park this morning is that Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder is set to unveil a new line of Redskin apparel -- starting with a maroon golf shirt emblazoned with "FIRE ZORN" in big black letters.

The shirts will be available from Tuesday for $75 each from Redskin fan apparel outlets.

While Snyder is said to have no intention whatsoever of ever firing Zorn despite the miserable (1-2) start of the season, the team owner figures that millions of angry fans -- combined with an expected season-long series of painful and embarrassing team loses -- will boost sales of the shirts to record levels.

Redskin Insiders also noted that Snyder expects to make at least $74 in profits from each sale.

Well..I was born here back in "57. Always been a Skins fan BUT-as a kid my number 1 team was the Colts. They had a QB with the same ethnic background as me...and they WON! The Skins, while exciting, were mediocre-at best-til George Allen came along. Now, mind you. I was passionate about the Skins, too and after the Colts left and Gibbs came along...they truly became ""my" team. And they were a "Team"! And all you have to do to see that the method Gibbs and Bobby and the rest used still works is look at New England and Belichick.
But I digress.....Although I don't much care for the name-or the team colors-the team that plays where the old Colts did is starting to look appealing. Start with the owners-although both are local boys who done good-that's about all they have in common. And the results on the field reflect their differences.
In "96, I went to FedEx to watch our crummy team play their crummier team. Cold.Raining. Skins losing...but as a loyal fan I stayed. It was the first time I'd taken Metro to the game(the horror of getting there already in place) , so with about 5 minutes left, I asked a guard if I could step outside to see where I needed to catch my bus.No problem-except that after stepping out 5 feet into the rain, I said "eff it"I'll find out when the games over...only to be told by a different guard that I couldn't re-enter with just my ticket stubb-I needed a re-entry pass(1st guard was gone). My pal with whom I sat-still inside-showed the g. our next to each other tix-to no avail. Crazy. Now, to be fair, Dan wasn't the owner yet.But it was a definite foreshadowing. Gave up my season tix after that season....still a loyal fan but 13 years later, that team up the road has won it all, torn it down, gone back to the championship game.....
What a shame
Go Skins

Vinny Cerrato needs to go! We can't fire Zorn now, or we'll never be able to atrract any good coaches to DC. However, we can fire Cerrato to shake things up. Go after Holmgren as the GM. He knows Zorn and the offensive system that they're trying to bring in. Let Holmgren tutor Zorn for the remainder of the year. I know this is wishful thinking on my part, but doing nothing would only add to the debacle that currently exists. Something needs to change. It's just too embarassing to be a skin's fan now. Snyder and Cerrato definitely blew it when they didn't give Gregg Williams a shot at Head Coach.

It was an all-around team loss, but that is not where the heart of the issue lies.
1. Everyone is hating on Blache this morning. Was the defense great? No, they were not yesterday. But looking the season - this D has allowed on four TDs in three games (one of the two NYG TDs was a fumble recovery). This D has, on average, been on the field more than ten minutes per game than the O. They are gassed because the offense can't sustain a drive.
2. The play calling is woeful. Unimaginative, and not utilizing talent to the fullest. Jim Zorn is not the "guru" we were led to believe.
3. Campbell is an average QB - not a terrible one, not a good one. Average. He's not a smart man, but he works well on instinct. The best drive of yesterday's game was the two-minute drive he ran for the second TD. Give JC time to think and things fall apart.
4. Snyder aand Cerrato are the problem. This team has been run into the ground by spending huge amounts on free agents that don't fit a system and years of flashy draft picks that haven't gelled into a "team". But you can't fire the owner. If Dan Snyder truly loves the Redskins as much as he says he does, he would sell the team right now and let someone else brings it back into contention.
5. Except the thing Dan Snyder loves more than the Redskins is money and power. He'll never relinquish the power of running his own little team. He knows the team is a cash cow - FedEx will always be sold out, he'll always have people in the seats and buying $10 beers and $7 hot dogs.

I am truly disgusted. Daniel Snyder is a complete idiot. Vinny C. Should be fired and then Snyder should turn around and fire himself. I ordered Sunday ticket just to watch the games and feel sick to my stomach. They are a disgrace. Bunch of fat, overpaid, gold tooth idiots that should be BOOED. And Portis should just shut the H----l up. This is the last time I watch any redskins game.

Posted by: upsetfan | September 28, 2009 9:59 AM | Report abuse

Finishing my earlier post ...
Dan will never sell the team becasue he makes money. All you "boycott the team" criers - you already bought your season tix, so Dan already has your money. You'll sell the seats, to a few diehards without tix or to opposing fans, so Dan will still have bodies in his seats to buy his $10 beers and $7 hot dogs. Dan still has a waiting list thousands deep for season tickets, so don't think someone isn't willing to buy your tix next year if you should choose to not take them.
This isn't Buffalo or Jacksonville or Detroit - FedEx will always be sold out, this team will always have a following, this team will always make money. Like the Yankees, the Cowboys, the Celtics - these teams will always thrive because the are iconic and legendary. Dan Snyder is no dummy ... he won't sell the Redskins as long as they keep making money and this team will always make money.
The only chance we have is for the Ghosts of Redskins Past to haunt Dan Snyder into a change of heart, or we will be dealing with this mismanaging "Scrooge" for decades.

Famed Hollywood movie actor Tom Cruise is set to reprise his Academy Award nominated role as football player-agent Jerry Maguire in a new commedy movie debuting this weekend.

In this sequel to the 1996 movie "Jerry Maguire," Cruise's character finds himself as a down and out player-agent whose career is suddenly resurrected when he is named as the general manager and personal confidante of the quirky, irresponsible and irrepressible owner of a highly lucrative but unsuccessful National Football League franchise composed of a bunch of not-so loveable losers who find new ways every week to insult and alienate their fans, while laughing all the way to the bank.

The title of the new comedy, being released on Friday by Paramount Pictures, is "Show Me the Money."

This is the most embarrassed I have ever been as a life-long 'skins fan. I live in Tampa now, and the abuse that I take for being a fan of this team is off the charts. The sad thing is that I have no defense, just like the 'skins. I'm not going to say that I will boycott the team as many others on here have stated, but I will be adjusting my expectations to more allign with the team's lack of pride and effort. What I saw out there yesterday was a complete breakdown from top (coaching) to bottom (players). Blanche is coaching the defense to not give up any big plays, which basically means teams with patience can move the ball at will. Why do you have a safety 1 on 1 with one of the most dangerous receivers in the league? The first time Zorn saw that happening, he should have walked over to Blanche and punched him in the face, taken over the D, and blitzed the hell out of Detroit for the rest of the game.

I'm not one bit surprised the Redskins lost on Sunday! I don't know why anybody is shocked. The Redskins have been "air" in pads except for the brief time Coach Gibbs returned. Even then, he couldn't keep them inspired to achieve. Having "character" is a great when it isn't cartoonish! This franchise is a mere imitation of what is was under Mr. Cooke. It is still a business, but we as fans are now expected to accept whatever product this owner puts on the field as genuine. We have been had and dupped. This franchise is a "lemon", we know it and still buy into it. I have been a Redskins fan for 35 years, and have seen my share of the "good, bad and the ugly." This "team" is a definite insult to our intelligence! Well, I'm not "drinking the kool-aid" anymore! I'm not spending one more dime on a franchise that calls me a "nit-wit", and plays me for a fool every Sunday. I will stay home with remote in hand and just become a football fan!

I have been a loyal die hard Redskins fan for 50 years now and have experienced the highs and many of the lows but must say right now is definitely a huge low. I am no expert but am knowledgeable enough to realize this organization is one of the top sports franchises in the business but is becoming one of the doormats in the NFL. Anyone that follows this team should realize ever since the end of the first Joe Gibbs era things have run flowing downhill rapidly. One definite thing is Daniel Snyder is not afraid to spend his riches but imagine how good his team could be if he spent all that money on real football type people instead of a marquee name. It isn't just the head coach or the QB but from top to bottom simply does not have true football types involved in the organization. It all begins with a general manager that knows how to recognize true football players and talent. Why was this organization so good back in the 70's and 80's? It wasn't just George Allen or Joe Gibbs but true football people that looked for and found real talent. How could a Bobby Beathard always seem to find low round draft picks or free agents that were successful when a Charlie Casserly and a Vinnie Cerato have had more draft busts then the hall of fame has on their shelves. From top to bottom the Skins always had people that knew this game called football and Mr Snyder simply has no clue. Having real football people in the organization will make real football players on the field. There are a few names as an example that simply have the "IT" factor and whatever IT is they have it. Bill Parcells can turn a 1-15 team into a playoff contender in one year or make any team he has coached a contender so why is that? He knows the type of players he wants and he gets them then molds them into real football players. MY suggestion to Danny boy is to quit wasting money on people that cannot do the job and you end up paying them to leave and grab yourself someone that will build you a championship caliber team. The strategy to resurrect the Skins is to start with a truly knowledgeable football General manager and let him go get your next head coach instead of you making all of the football decisions. Give him the checkbook and you stay out of the way and maybe someday the Redskins will be good again.

Yeah he passed for a lot of years but it was when the Lions were up by more than 2 scores.. they were trading yards for time.. their HC even said so in the post game interview and besides it was against the LIONS!!! Campbell should have been scoring TD early and often against this team.. he only scored late, like against the Giants when the other team were playing off. Campbell is 3 and 8 his last 11 games.. Skins need to shake up this team.. Zorn should declare Collins his starting QB.. that should wake them up.

ASHBURN, VA – Washington Redskins running back said this morning that he was so fatigued from just watching his other teammates practice last week, that he couldn’t summon the energy to play effectively in a Sunday afternoon loss to former league doormat Detroit.

When asked who then was wearing his uniform during the embarrassing loss to the Lions, Portis said: “Yeah, I was there, but that wasn’t me.”

Portis said that watching his teammates running around at practice and trying to get their timing and rhythm down left him feeling winded and tired.

“All that standing around during the practice sessions left my ankles feeling pretty sore too,” he said.

Portis has therefore made himself unavailable this week’s practices, and he won’t even bother to attend any team meetings in preparation for next Sunday’s home game against Tampa Bay.

Said the star running back, “I don’t want to take any chances this week. So I’ll see ya on Sunday. But you should only plan on having me play for part of the 3rd Quarter.”

The Redskins are in the same position the Baltimore Orioles have been in since Peter Angelos (The Troll) bought the Orioles. Angelos and Snyder will never hire a GM, Manager or Coach that will tell them to go back to the owner's box and let them do the job they were hired to do. It will not happen. Here's the only solution to solve the debacle of Snyder owning the Redskins, the public buy the team. Put a group together to organize the effort and raise
the money to buy the 'Skins. Then sell stock in the Washington Redskins. When the stadium announcer says, "Introducing YOUR Washington Redskins", they really will be our team. Snyder has a price, let's buy him out. It can be done.

Hello Redskins fans; I grew up in Michigan with my father; a huge Redskins fan. Over the years there were many painfull losses to the Redskins. Dad would rub it in and go on and on about the "hogs". I learned to hate the Redskins and there obnoxious transvestite fans with the pig noses and the make-up. Then there was the 1991 Detroit Lions. The team that against all odds, injuries, and Mike Utley's paralization made it all the way to the NFC Championship game; and as usual who was there to crush hopes and dreams? You and Dad. So just think of this as a little payback for all the misery you've given the Lions over the years, and may this be the beginning of many years of Honolulu Blue and Silver nightmares for Redskins fans everywhere. "time to make a change" huh? Where??? It's not all Zorn. Playcalling is an overrated topic if you don't have Playmakers. And don't refer to the Pats, cause Zorn is no Belichick. Our two Probowl players on offense are Sellers and Cooley. A friggin' fullback and tightend. These two guys are probably my favorite skins, but that's because of their drive, work ethic, and old school mentality. Our #1 reciever is 5'7". Name another big time playmaking reciever in the league that is his size. M Kelly needs more time to develop. As for the backfield, Poor Portis doesn't seem to have the same burst, for the most part has been limited on carries, and has a mediocre line to make way for him. JC is up and down. Case in point is that a blown Lion's coverage lead to the Moss TD yesterday. He's a bottom 50% QB in this league. I like the guy and hope he can turn it around, but that's a fact. Name another team that wins consistently without a big time triggerman. Our offense is responsible for putting points on the board, not just giving the defense time to rest, and so far they are failing miserably. I hope we can at least come out of the first quarter of the season 2-2. But the NFC East is fairly stacked as always and to win in this division we need to start converting in the redzone.

Searching for a way to reverse a dismal losing trend for the Washington Redskins, head coach Jim Zorn has declared Sunday at FEDEX Field as "Talk Like a Pirate Day."

Team insiders say the coach is hoping to decipher the complex offensive and defensive schemes of their NFC foe for Sunday afternoon – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – by listening to their play calling and analyzing the game film following their match.

While the coach said he doubts that the Redskins will have any chance of winning Sunday’s game, he nonetheless predicts that the thus winless Buccaneers will present an “awesome opportunity” for his team to learn how to lose gracefully.

“You know the Buccaneers are going to come in here hungry for a win. So the question becomes can we match their intensity? Well, I somehow doubt it.”

The coach concluded, “ARGHH! Ahoy, there matey! Would yer need a new quarterbacks coach anytime soon?”

Tom Cruise. Haha. Hilarious! Just when I thought things couldn't get more absurd - they do. Thanks Danny Boy, about as good as a laugh as I had yesterday when we lost to Detroit. LOL

Didn't read every comment but the hook and ladder for the final play was stupid - at least half of detroit defense is at the goal line. Maybe if their were more time, and were trying to get closer.

Campbell played well, wish Zorn would let him play instead of handcuffing him.

Another gripe the Redskins get a nice 1st down with F. Davis, and they let the rest of the entire 1st quarter run out. Gives the lions defense a chance to rest and stalls any momentum (necessary at this time) redskins get from 1st down.

I've been a zorn supporter - mostly cause the redskins need stability at the top, but if I know half the plays they are running before they run them - you can be assured the other team does to.

Pierce (ny giants) continues to have monster games against the redskins because he knows what they are running.

It's official:

In the last ten years, one thing Mr. Snyder has been successful with is the following:

Snyder has turned himself into a younger and richer Al Davis; by implication, turning the Washington Redskins into the Oakland Raiders.

- Both teams have owners that have the final say, but now thought to be "out of touch" or "not knowledgeable enough of the sport."
-Both owners either serve as their respective teams's General Manager or have a "yes-man" in their inner circle that plays that role for them.
-Both owners continue to live in the glory of their team's past achievements.
-In coaching circles, coaching these teams is now considered an unwise choice due to the front-office situation, and the relationships between the owner and several of the team's players.
-When the owners did let someone else run the show, the owners eventually had to wrest it away, and send that person packing, even though the person let go had the team pointed in the right direction towards success, in terms of salary cap situation, player and front-office personnel, and overall team identity.

It's true that many players and coaches have come an gone from this team with minimal success and heavy salary cap implications. The one constant through this has been Snyder, and except for one year, Cerrato. A universal change in philosophy from the top down has to be considered: they've done everything else.
That means Cerrato would have to go, and bring in a strong GM with final say over all football matters, and let that person bring in the right people to right the ship.

Snyder should take a page out of the playbook of the team's previous owner, Jack Kent Cooke, and be totally hands-off, and only intervene when necessary. But don't hold your breath on anything happening. Assuming good health, Snyder has 30-50 years of team ownership in his future.

Al Davis...who knows?

Followed the Redskins closely and religiously for over 30 years & the comments I've read about nothing changing until Snyder leaves are 100% on the money. No doubt Zorn will wind up sacked, if not now then after the season, because the Danny can't admit that he and his refusal to hire a real GM are the root of the problem.

I actually have had it. Snyder's running of the team has been so abysmal for so long that following the team no longer held any joy for me whatsoever. Comments about losing the fan base are accurate--I loved this team for a long time but as long as this regime is in charge I will not follow them, watch them on TV, or buy any Skins merchandise.

I'd suggest that ticket holders show their displeasure by not showing up and getting rid of their season tickets but that would get you sued into the Stone Age by King Daniel I.

I grew up a Redskin fan in Texas. And believe me the only thing more annoying than the Dallas Cowboys are the Dallas Cowboy fans. I believe that today, calling oneself a Redskin fan out loud, is a mark of a true "die-hard". My point is that I have always been a fan, and I will wake up tomorrow and find myself a Redskin fan. However, I am so tired of giving this team my heart year after year, game after game, only to have this team crush my love of it over and over again. Everyone saw the loss to Detroit coming. We saw it minutes after the Rams game was over. Our love for the Redskins, made us say "nah that will not happen". But privately, to ourselves we saw it coming. And all that was left was for our Redskins to go out and make it happen. And they did, they collectively went out there and lost to the worst team in the NFL. Everyone is calling for this person to get fired, traded and what not. Ok, some very good points are being made by everyone. I'm just saying that I am tired of loving a team which never fails to disappoint. I can not wait till the offseason. We Redskins (historically) have the best offseason in the NFL. Dan Snyder thanks for making our Redskins #1, every Feb thru Jul.

I think I remember saying I "stuck a fork in them last week; tasted like turkey." Turkey really is a euphemism for ...uh... shinola! That the team is not well stocked is Cerrato's fault; FIRE him now and begin the search for a knowledgeable professional GM now, right now. Let him pick a successor for Zorn. That the team never seems ready to play is Zorn's fault. FIRE Zorn AND his coaching staff. Let his successor pick his own staff. The earlier this is done the better, beginning now. Lastly, Dan-boy, FIRE yourself. You can own the team if you stop meddling. Either pay up and shut up, or sell the team. A Skins fan since 1950! Ashamed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.

Ok, I've read everyone of these posts and had a great laugh at a few of them--got to admit, Skins fans have a great sense of humor, even in the midst of this debacle of a game. Like most of you, I've been a ridiculous die-hard since the days of the yellow helmet and "R" logo, the Over-The-Hill-Gang, Sonny vs. Billy, lick the bill of your cap George Allen, and the glory days of RFK Staduim (was there ever a better place to tailgate then there??). So I FINALLY got season tickets this year to enjoy overpriced beer and dogs in the stratasphere of the "cheap" seats of FedEx Field and for what? I refer you to all the comments above for the ouster of management and players that only care about a hefty paychecks, which I am in total agreement--but to buy something I have basically waited my whole life to get to only see a pipedream of what I expected makes me the dumbest jackass of all time! You want a return to glory? Start by hiring former Redskin players that continue to bleed burgundy & gold. Russ Grimm would be a hell of good head coach. Sonny Jurgensen as QB coach. Why did Charlie Tayor leave as WR coach? Darrell Green as DB coach. Riggins as RB coach. Sam Huff as LB coach. Joe Jacoby as o-line coach. Charles Mann as d-line coach. You can tell they hurt just as much as any of us when witnessing the crap we had to stomach yesterday and I bet they wouldn't tolerate for a second the display put forth by our "team".

We need true fans to lead this team, just as we have true fans that follow this team. Present management and players could care less about us fans; it's just a business to them. Meanwhile we have to sit and stew for yet another week wondering when, if ever, the good times will return. Just like you all have said, I'm as sick as ever, pouring my heart out (and my hard-earned dough) routing for a team that has been in a death spiral since 1992. Snyder, be smart....stick to what you do best (make $$) and leave the Redskins to those that truly care!!

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snidely is the proud recipient today of a special award from the president.

Snidely was called to the White House earlier this morning for a private audience with President Barak Obama and U-2 lead singer Bono. Bono is in town for a Tuesday evening rock concert at FEDEX Field, and asked to participate in the special award ceremony feting the team owner.

After exchanging fist bumps with the president and Gaelic pleasantries with the Irish singer known for his humanitarian appeals, Snidely was presented with a National Economic and Environmental Leadership Award by the President.

The award recognizes Snidely’s assistance in helping rescue the Detroit football team from their multi-year losing streak – along with the Redskin owner’s continuing commitment to the highest ideals and standards of energy conservation.

According to the award citation, the Washington Redskins expended minimum effort and energy in losing to the hapless Detroit Lions on Sunday.

The citation read, in part: “It was a completely uninspired performance against one of the worse teams in the league.”

The citation also noted the owner’s unflagging loyalty to his worthless excuse for a coach and his equally dunderheaded quarterback.

During the ceremony, Bono asked for an opportunity to meet Snidely’s friend and confidante Tom Cruise. Snidely said he would bring the movie star to Tuesday’s concert – to which Bono responded, “Rock on!”

I have been a skins fan for the past 30 years. Never have they been as bad, terrible, and awful as Danny's current group of overpaid bumbling boob's.

To correct the problem is simple.
SELL the TEAM because neither Dan or the goofball Vinnie Cerato has any knowledge of building a team. Those are our two biggest problems.

Look at the state of the skins over the past 10 years, Danny's tenure, and you find they really stink. I have been true blue and only wanted the skins to win. But Danny has taken care of that. I think he is really a Cowboy fan because only a Cowboy fan could screw up so much for so long and then have the nerve to take a grandma to court and sue her over tickets.
You had better watch out Danny cause the next tickets I buy will not be for the Redskins. Why would I do something like that? Because you and the entire organization stinks, stinks, stinks.

Please do the right thing and SELL THE TEAM. I will not watch or attend any football game as long as you are the owner.

Got it you pig headed CHUMP! Perhaps I should return all the redskin stuff I bought. Probably would not take back. Maybe I will just go out side call the media and burn all the skins hats, sweatshirts, coats, gloves and the list goes on and on.

What better day than Yom Kippur for me to reflect on all the negativity this past year. As I sit here atoning for my sins, I can't help but wonder if the entire organization secretly shuttled themselves out to a private temple and started doing some serious apologizing. There should be a live feed of all them sitting in temple with their heads lowered asking G-d and anyone watching the live feed for forgiveness...

Now that I have that portion out of the way, onto the serious part.

1) "The Dan" isn't leaving, so no amount of prayer is gonna deliver that. Does anyone know how much money he makes off our tears yearly? It's insane, and as long as he keeps doing so, he's staying right here.

2) He WON'T fire Vinny...they're too close! He mixed business with pleasure and can't go back. Vinny knows friendships, not football. But alas, the higher power that is won't fire Vinny and bring in someone who knows how to build a team.

3) Zorn makes bad calls, but not all the time. We can say what we want...and we are and I love everyone for it. The thing is, even if we write off this season, firing Zorn for Danny's hiring mistake won't rectify @#$%. He and Campbell are making progress...may not be visible but it's there. That being said...

4) Zorn, SHUT UP ABOUT DETAILS! We see what you see!! You think we don't know about details? We've been lacking details for going on ten years now.

5) We as fans want answers, and since nothing anyone in that organization says will even begin to make us feel better, I say the Redskins (ALL of them) not be allowed to talk themselves into holes they can't dig themselves out of by the time a game ends on Sunday. No interviews, no nothing. That way they'll be FORCED to let their playing do the talking. If they don't initiate their own media blackout on the media, the media will be forced to blackout games on us when disgruntled fans STOP BUYING TICKETS!

Final thought: The best owner is the one you don't see until the end when he comes down from his box to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Peace and G-d bless to all you Redskins fans out there.

Then plan on releasing all of them at the end of the season. This season is shot. No one on the offense can block. CP is no coach. CP is not a star, don't treat him like one.

Do you ever remember seeing Dave Butz going out of the game for oxygen??? And he didn't make 100 million either. Portis is never good for more than half a season and has a big all star mouth and doesn't practice. Get rid of his Butt and his mouth. Stop paying other teams rejects millions to suck oxygen on the sidelines. You think Hainesworth's last team isn't laughing at the Deadskins right now.

Hoping to break the dismal spell of a two-game losing streak, Redskins Head Coach Jim Zorn and his staff will put in a new series of plays for the pre-game warm ups this Sunday at FEDEX Field.

Recognizing that playing Metallica during practices before their last home game only got them 9 points at home against the hapless St Louis Rams -- and relentlessly playing Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" during team practices only got them a measly 14 points against the even-worse Detroit Lions -- Zorn has decided that he needed to switch things up a bit and do something to build better team cohesion.

So when the Redskins take the field on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the offensive team will congregate at the 20 yard line and start line dancing to "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor -- the 1980s hit about an abused housewife who vows to fight on with her miserable life despite being hopelessly old, fat and ugly.

When asked for a comment, star running back Clinton Portis said he would just prefer to let his dancing do the talking -- but then pulled himself out of practice, claiming that his ankles are tired, sore and swollen.

Meanwhile, Redskin defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth says he'll be taking it even easier this week -- at least until he hears a little more MC Hammer... "Can't Touch This."

Holmgrem: 1) would not come here and 2) did not trust Zorn to even be an offensive coordinator while he was at Seattle. Cowher, Shanahan and the others will not come here. That was how we ended up with Zorn, remember? There is always Matt Millen.....

ducky -- I remember Dexter Manley going out of the game for oxygen, but he performed at a high enough level, I was OK with it. Riggo used to get oxygen too. Be that as it may, you could sure have gotten a few good offensive linemen for that $100 mill they spent on Haynesworth -- the kind of linemen that let you go up the middle for six on 4th and goal . . .

All you folk clamoring for Todd Collins to start seem to have short memories because you seem to forget:

1) That was two seasons ago when the Redskins swept into the playoffs.
2) It was a DIFFERENT offense.
3) Portis and the rushing game led the push into the playoffs.
4) The team rode the emotional wave in the aftermath of Sean Taylor's death.
5) Did Collins do anything in the preseason to convince you he should be the starter? He hasn't been a backup for over 15 seasons for no good reason.
Use your brains.

Wow...where to start? I have read just about all of these posts and there seems to be one constant and that is most fans agree that the upper management is the problem...I as a huge fan have been saying that ever since Snyder took over and fired Norv Turner...I HATE Cerrato!!! This guy is the reason why the 49er franchise went belly up years back...What is his claim to fame? He found T.O. Big deal! What have u done lately? He certainly didnt find Cooley that was Gibbs doing as was any of the draft picks made during Gibbs second stint......
I cant figure out why Vinny has been here all of this time...what is the magical connection between him and Snyder? When Marty was the coach in D.C. I was happy as hell because he's a smash mouth football coach and if u want to be sucessful in the NFC East that is the way to play..we had a dominant back in Stephen Davis and A good O-line, we even had a solid defense. What we didnt have was a QB..(Tony Banks and Kent Grahm) We played pound the ball with our bruiser and play action pass and it seems to me the Skins have allways been that type of team. we finished 8-8 that season. Not so great right? WRONG, Marty fired Vinny and had total control of this team what did Snyder do after the season he fired our coach and hired Vinny back...WHY???? All we needed was a QB and im sure it was going to be the priority for Marty in the Offseason...that is a time capsule i personally want to have back because i feel like we were much closer to a superbowl then than we have been any of the times that Cerrato has been a part of this once great organization...
Gibbs didnt draft Jason to play a westcoast offense he drafted him because of the deep ball that he can throw off of playaction who's wonderful idea was it to bring in a west coast offense after Gibbs? Snyder...Cerrato?? who knows but they have definetly blown it again...I mean even after Marty was fired they hired Steve Spurrier and his pathetic run-n-gun college offense..once again the personel on the team at the time was for smash mouth not that dumb $!^& we were force fed for 2years...that was a stupid hire just as hiring an offensive cordinator before you hire a head coach was UNREAL!
i want smash mouth football back where it belongs in D.C. and i want a coach who can make that happen...If Norv Turner was fired back in 99 because he was to passive than why in the hell is Jim Zorn our head coach because to me it's the same personality...there needs to be changes everywhere in this franchise but they need to be made wisely and not so fantasy football-ish....FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HIRE A GM.

how can people say cambpell is a good qb, because he threw two meaningless touchdowns??

this is not an irrational thought, but jason cambpell inhibits zorn for types of plays he can call, the only time he can complete a pass is when hes in the shotgun...

the play he had an interception was horrible! he tried to force the ball in between two defenders on his first read! when randal el was in the flat WIDE OPEN. by the way, that was a 3rd down...

also, he dropped the ball, not once, but TWICE with NO PRESSURE AT ALL.

please skins fans, review the tape of jason cambpell, he is scared and frightened on 3-5 step drops...

the shotgun is nice and all, but its pretty bland and does not really allow you to set up for the play action pass...

so, when people blame this on zorn, you are the retards, you are the irrational ones because just look at our qb, all he can do is through to square, curl and te drag routes...the one td pass to santan moss was a hell of a play by moss, who still had to come back to the ball becasue after 3 years as a full time starter cambpell still has issues placing the ball...

that's why cambpell sucks, because the coach doesnt believe in him, and no matter how much he says he does, i dont care, the playcalling does not match that commitment

Whoa! Unbelievable. Dan (as in Snyder not as in Steinberg)getting so many people fired up and every one seem to be joining the bandwagon. I would not read too much into the last two games. Yes they lost to Lions so what? They were this close to scoring lots of points and came up with not much in these games. But people nothing is broken.
Give Zorn and his men some time and spare a thought or two. Lot goes into planning and sometimes things don't work out no matter what decisions you make. It is just the way it is. It is like life people, a great leveler. I am happy for Lions fans. It is about time they won a game.
As for the owner of our team, he got his kick when he actually won the Haynesworth Lottery. What inspires him is this high adrenaline game of acquiring the superstars. He is one of greatest gamblers out there. He loves it during the off season. Once the actual season starts he goes off on hiatus. He has already won his division and Conference when he signed Albert. Now if he had successfully signed Jay Cutler, it would have been his super duper bowl. Alas he just came short. but he is getting ready for his next season. He can't wait till Spring! As for as Dan Snyder is considered, that is where all the fun and excitement is! Who cares for the actual games, right.

This looks like 2008 all over again...the offense cannot score touchdowns and the defense cannot stop anyone when it counts. I'm disappointed to hear the coaches continually say it's "missed details"...they have had since early August to iron out the details. If I continually miss those types of details in my job I won't have a job very long (it's called being accountable). Why can't million dollar athletes block or tackle someone...anyone? By the way, when did the NFL start to grease the pigskin? Perhaps Jason Campbell should try the glove approach, it works for Big Ben. It is time for the entire Redskin organization to stop living in a dream world and face reality...having high paid players does not equate to being good; it is coaches and players who have talent, love the game, and have heart; this is what winners are made of. I like the NFL, but for years I have been leaning more towards the college game. They may not have the greatest talent overall but they appear to give their all every play and show true emotion. Disappointed Skin's fan in Utah.

First step, Cerrato must go, hire a GM, and Snyder must step AWAY!!! If you must make a big statement, and throw away the season, get a nice low draft pick, fire Zorn, or keep him around to coach QB's. Make Bugel the interim HC, and go hard after Cower, Dungy, or Shanahan. Zorn is a great guy, not HC material, or even offensive co-ordinator. Somebody has to come in that can garner respect from these primadonnas, and it has to be somebody Snyder will leave alone, Cower fits the bill, but who in their right mind would want to work for a born loser like Snyder?
Help us all, PLEASE!! We love this team, as long as the ownership stays, we are destined to be a laughing stock, see "Cowboys" in dictionary.

Wow. What a train wreck. This is not the all time low some are making it to be but it is not far from it.

Jack Kent Cooke is rolling in his grave. Mr. Snyder has destroyed a once proud organization and fan base all for a buck. Instead of giving $100M to an often injured (and injured again) defensive lineman he should have split that money on a coach and GM. The only problem is it may be difficult to hire anyone worth a damn at either position. Someone posted names like Holmgren, Cowher or Gruden. Somehow I doubt that even 50 million dollars would bring any of those names here with the current owner in place.

It is sad to say but unless Mr. Snyder sells the team; which is unlikely unless it loses money; we as fans are going to have to endure mediocre effort and losing seasons.

Welcome to Detroit.

And way to go spending all your money on that fat slob in the middle, and now he is hurt. Good managing, spend more money on one of the better defences in the NFL last year, and none upgrading the dismal offence. Jim Zorn might not be the man, but he needs some talent and time. Nobody cares that my fantasy team lost (thank you Portis), but Dan, YOUR fantasy team has a million(?) fans and is the pride of the city.

It's simple-if I bought a billion dollar business in rocket parts, I'd hire someone who knew rockets inside and out.

What does Vinny Cerrato have on you that he still has a job?

campbell is painful to watch. he must go first. that last time the redkins were fun to watch was 2 years ago when collins led them to the playoffs and almost beat seattle in the playoffs. why am i the only person who remembers that? campbell is horrible and continually misses open receivers. zorn is in over his head, but unless he makes this change he has no chance to succeed.

I hope that Snyder grows a pair of BALLS and fires Zorn!!!! As anyone who watched the game yesterday can see Zorn is not a headcoach nor is Campbell anything more than a third string back-up. What I saw from my beloved Redskins yesterday was the players jumping ship, or at best quitting as Strahan said during his halftime report on fox. What the hell is Snyder waiting for fire Zorn as we all know Shannahan, Gruden, Cohwer, Billick, and Martz are all proven winners and available. You better beleive that Jerry Jones will go out and sign one of them if Dallas keeps playing like the Redskins. I IMPLORE ANY AND ALL REAL DIE HARD REDSKINS FANS TO START SHOWING UP AT THE GAMES WEARING BAGS OVER THEIR HEADS AND BOO THE TEAM THE ENTIRE GAME UNTIL OUR STUPID OWNER GROWS A PAIR AND GETS US A REAL COACH AND ALLOWS THAT COACH TO BENCH THAT BACK-UP QB CAMPBELL. I HAVE BEEN A DIE HARD REDSKINS FAN FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND NEVER SEEN THE TEAM THIS BAD AND HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE COACH MUCH LESS QUIT ON THE COACH. THE TIME FOR CHANGE IS NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. GEORGE ALLEN AND JACK KENT COOKE ARE PROBABLY ROLLING OVER IN THEIR GRAVES KNOWING OUR BELOVED TEAM IS THIS EMBARRASSING AND SORRY. SO ONCE AGAIN IF YOU ARE A REAL TRUE DIE HARD SKINS FAN YOU MUST SHOW UP AT ALL HOME GAMES WEARING BAGS AND BOOING THE TEAM THE ENTIRE GAME UNTIL SNYDER GETS REAL AND HIRES A REAL COACH AND CHANGES ARE MADE AT QB.

Wow -

What a shameful day. Strahan called it right - (some of) the guys quit out there on Sunday. You could see it their faces. Zorn may need to go, but do you really want either of the asst H/C's to take up the reins? No way. Tampa Bay no longer looks like the pushover it appeared to be before the preseason started.

Stick it out for the rest of the year (take the high pick, and trade down for more quality later), and put enough money down to get Cowher - settle for nothing less!

Cowher will demand to have his own people in place, which will get Vinny out the door. How Vinny has managed to retain his position, even increasing his responsibilities, is beyond me. His track record here as well as his history in the league stinks.

I don't understand all of this talk about hiring a Shanahan, Martz, and Billick is about.

Shanahan couldn't get win anything after Elway.

Martz took over a team already loaded with talent, and lost in the Super Bowl - and has done nothing since - do you really think his style of football is going to work in the NFC East?!

Billick couldn't do anything without that defense that he did not put together - look at his QB decisions over the years - yeah - real winners!

Gruden is a possibility, but he took over a team that Dungy had built. When those pieces either retired, moved to other teams, or left the league - his teams did nothing!

Cowher is the only experienced head coach that should be considered. He's built teams with less money than he will have at his disposal here in DC, AND his style of football fits in nice with NFC East style football.

I am at a lose for words...when you look at every part of the organization there are????? DHall makes a comment about Big time Players make Big Time Plays(he is over rated)...who was he reffering to and when is he going to make a big play? Moss had a great day but does his dance even though the team is behind...look I get you are emotional but I can't stand the fact guys are talking smack and dancing when they are behind in games...let's face it, Portis, Moss & Samuel are not getting any younger...our Oline is OK at best when they are 100% with zero support off the bench (great job in spending money this past year front office), we thought the Dline was going to be dominate but we see how they get dominated, our secondary can't tackle, they are more interested in making a highlight on ESPN...they are making ESPN alright. We continue to spend money on big names and zero results Taylor, DSanders, Archiletta, BSmith (who is driving the bus now) seems like everyone on the team has their own agenda...I live in Bmore and hear it left and right about the Ravens...on paper we have much more talent but on the field they are a much better TEAM and I think it starts at the ownership (Bmore has one of the Best Owners in the NFL). The only way the Redskins change their ways is to change ownership...Any one have $2b laying around so we can make a chang in DC...I guess we could start a Charity...Save the Skins...I had Season Tickets about 5 years ago and decided to give them up because I found more enjoyment doing...well doing anything but watching a dreadful Redskins.

lowest of the lows!!!! im currently 25 and have been a fan ever since i came out the womb. my dad used to take me with his friends to RFK to watch the HOGS play and i luved the atmosphere and stadium then. ever since we have been in the new house nothing as changed. we are loosers and its all the result of the owner, coaches, and team. Snyder needs to go or make drastic changes!! Coach Zorn and Blanche need to go! they are terrible coaches with an obviouse scheme that everyone knows. the players, d hall, laundry, rogers need to stop being pre madonnas! cause they havent done S***! i say cut them! also devin thomas, and malcom kelly need to grow up and play or i say trade them. cartwright and betts need to be cut cause they have nothing to offer the team. after being a fan of so long, today i took down my redskins wall of photos and pics, and only left up the those HOGS that fought and blead for us in the 80's and 90's. DAN WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO REDSKINS NATION IS TERRIBLE, AND YOUR ABOUT TO BE IN THE RED LINE AREA (LOOSING MONEY) SO SELL THE TEAM OR MAKE THE CHANGES IN THE FRONT OFFICE (FIRE YOUR RACKETBALL BIT** CERRATO) AND THE COACHING STAFF OR YOU HAVE LOST ALL THE HEARTS! YOU BROUGHT THIS ON YOURSELF FOOL!!!!!
