Daniel Snyder speaks again

For the second time in recent weeks, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder addressed the media during a Tuesday charity event, this time a Thanksgiving food basket giveaway at FedEx Field.

A large group of media members gathered around Snyder in a stadium lobby while about a dozen players and hundreds of corporate volunteers handed out 3,500 turkeys to Prince George's County residents in the stadium concourse.

"The community of Prince George's County is just so important to us," said Snyder, who had spent more than an hour handing out turkeys and interacting with the public. "And obviously with FedEx Field here, we're just happy to give back, and this year we're doing a little bit extra, as everyone should nowadays."

NBC's Lindsay Czarniak then asked the only questions of Snyder.

"Dan, talking to people in the community here, they know what a big difference you make," she began. "And this is the same community that wants to know that you guys are gonna make changes and that is starting to lose faith in the organization. What do you say to them about that?"

"Right now, today, we're just celebrating Thanksgiving and giving back to the community as best we can," Snyder said. "Obviously I think the team's playing hard, but we're all very, very disappointed, and obviously I'm as disappointed as everyone. And we're hoping to get things straightened out in the near future."

Czarniak asked if fans could expect changes, but Snyder had already begun saying his goodbyes.

"Thanks," he said. "See you guys. Happy Thanksgiving, ok?"

When are you gonna put on your blonde wig & training bra so you too can get an exclusive with Danny Boy? Or does that only come out on weekends in Dupont?

Daniel M. Snyder is the single biggest reason why the Washington Redskins aren't winning football games.

How gracious of Lord Snyder to mingle with mere commoners from PG county for MORE than an hour. This isn't news this is just a daily update from the dictatorship from hell that is the Washington Redskins.

Nice gloves Snyder. Maybe, one day when you grow up you can be a professional football player and wear these gloves

Posted by: mcvacin | November 24, 2009 3:26 PM | Report abuse

I like how The Danny is wearing receiver gloves when he goes in for the hug/handles the turkeys.

You can just see him glowing with excitement getting ready to hug that woman, what a kind-hearted fellow.

For this you missed Ben Olsen's retirement press conference? Yet another reason for me to hate on Snyder.

A) In what way is Lindsey Czarniak on Dan Snyder's payroll?

B) On what planet do you live where asking an NFL owner a question that mentions the community "losing faith in the organization" and asks what changes he is going to make considered a softball question?

C) Oh yeah that evil Dan Snyder, what a villain. Giving away 3,500 turkeys, which equates to roughly 20-25,000 dinners for the needy. What an evil man he must be, let's take shots at him when he does such evil things.

I guess it's just coincidence that only Lindsay C. -- who, after all, works for Channel 4, the official broadcast partner of this godforsaken franchise -- gets to ask questions of the Danny.

Memo to other reporters: practice up, and if YOU can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch, maybe the Danny will take a question from YOU.

I wonder if Danny is going to France for Thanksgiving.

LC also worked for the redskins tv network for preseason games. good for danny for giving away turkeys...i'm sure fedex paid for them, but whatever.

he and the redskins do a tremendous amount for charity, which is great. most of us can separate the charitable danny from the one who has ruined our beloved franchise. personally, i'd rather him be an uncharitable SOB with a few more lombardi's than handing out turkeys during another playoff less season..

Abe Pollin, RIP. Thanks for re-building down town DC.

You forget that channel 4 is "in bed" with the Redskins (Just like Comcast Sportsnet)...so technically, yeah, they are on his payroll (You lose access to the skins, forget being a reporter in this town)..... radio and print is totally different. The only time he will make any comments are during these charity events (that are huge right offs for him.. by the way). What reporter wants to grill him during this time.. it is another strategic way for Danny to appeal to the fans. He is giving back and saying boo hoo, we are all disappointed. it's kind of like a Star, who is coming out of rehab for the 5th time going... look it me, I am doing better things now :) I don't believe it and dont care for him. I am sure anyone reading this has first hand knowledge of a story about Snyder and his true demeanor. I have been lucky enough to have close confidants that have worked within his organizations (not just skins) that have dealt with hi mand his handlers personally.... he does not have the greatest reputation. he was forced to do this..... every sports franchise, NFL, NBA has something like this going on in every city (its called publicity and good will, which they think will turn into ROI in the future). Danny boy never did this when he owned Snyder Communications.... the NFL pushes this as good will to the people in the city. Now, I think it is wonderful that the Redskins do this because it is a nice feeling knowing that so many people, in this tough time, can enjoy a good warm meal for Thanksgiving. I know I went off track so I will shut up now :)

This story just warms my heart. Mr. Snyder has destroyed our team, turned us into the laughing stock of the league but... wait.. he gave out turkeys! WE THE FANS ARE THE BIGGEST TURKEYS

Dave Donovan watch out... that Bimbo at NBC might soon have your job.

Some of these comments are hilarious, given everything sucks - but we got some damn funny people posting.

Lets just be honest for a minute, who amongst us guys Wouldn't give hottie an interview? She has got to be the hottest female report in the land, seriously. Dan maybe an idiot, but he's no fool. Hotty did ask some good questions though, i like that she went for the juggler with one question. Dan is a tool, such a typical PR move to hand out turkeys, ironic since he is one. I'm surprised no skins were injured while handing them out, and put on IR.

Okay okay, like he didn't sue 5,000 grandmas & grandpas out there AND re-sell the tickets. Like he hasn't raped the fan base out of MILLIONS over the years. Like he hasn't tried to censor the Washington Post and the very fans who attend games & spend money.

Most of us are smart enough to realize Snyder probably licked every turkey and said, "now you don't REALLY want that turkey, do you?" Only half-joking.

A PR stunt is a PR stunt. But this one does have merit.

Ben Olsen retires and earns a day in DC. The Wizards were going to honor him tonight and now Abe Pollin has died. I'm feeling gutted right now.

Posted by: hessone | November 24, 2009 4:56 PM | Report abuse

Not sure if Snyder was wearing those gloves cause he wants to be a "player" for cause he doesn't want to make the hands of the commoners?

Little general is trying whatever he can to turn the public perception around. By the way, if you are a billionaire, does handing out 3,500 turkeys really mean a lot? How about building schools or hospitals in PG county with those billions? How about being accoutable for the joke of a team you put on the field every week?

You can pretend all you want Danny, you will never be a "player" and you will never seem sincere in the community you continually take from.

"She has got to be the hottest female reporter in the land, seriously?" Hardly, unless you think someone with the body of an 11 year old girl is hot. There are many hotter, lots to choose from. For one, give me Erin Andrews every day of the week over Czarniak.

Posted by: member5 | November 24, 2009 5:41 PM | Report abuse

I don't like what the guy has done to the team, but I think some of you guys are nuts. The people who get the turkeys will surely appreciate them, (and know how to defrost and cook them - sheesh), and I don't care if he or the organization gets a "right" off. I am guessing you meant tax write off? Either way, there are a bunch of families who have saved money this season because of this event. That is the bottom line, for me.

I think I would wear gloves if I was handing out frozen turkeys. He probably forgot to bring any, so someone ran in to the locker room and grabbed him a pair.

I wouldn't expect any owner to really get in to a deep discussion of what ails the team and what he plans to do about it in this situation, particularly when he knows how obsessively we will all parse his words.

Again, I have nothing good to say about what he has done to the team and the fans, but to criticise him so much for doing something good is a bit out of hand.

Danny may have done a nice thing handing out turkeys to the needy while wearing NFL issued gloves - ROFL!!!! But he is the one that has taken our proud, winning franchise and turned it into a debacle. For that, I he is an idiot and utter moron.

PS: Lindsay Czarniak is finer than a new set of snow tires and I surely wouldn't kick her outta the sack ;) Besides don't you think she gets good free seats to the local professional games!!!!

now that's a lot of turkeys.

also, lindsay learned her lesson...she got right to the point with the first question this time. hard to argue with that, it's not her fault synder didn't answer it.

I think Mr. Snyder did good handing out turkeys. Now if he would just hand out a pink slip to VINNY and hire a real GENERAL MANAGER all will be forgiven and we will all give thanks on Thanksgiving!! FIRE VINNY! Oh BTW I hate Dallas and they SUCK!

Try saying this:

1) Free tix for the grandma I sued.

2) The soldier's wife whose sign I stole is welcome to hang her "I love my husband in Afghanistan" banner from the owner's box, and I'll personally guarantee it will be on TV and the itsy bitsy jumbotron.

3) I am consulting with NFL elder statesmen to select Vinny's replacement.

I don't mean to sound callous, I'm sure the famnilies that recieved the free turkeys appreciated the gesture.

That being said, small pr gestures don't mean a damn thing when it comes to Snyder's reputation in this town. He became the most hated Washingtonian by running the Redskins into the ground. Until he does something to change that, he could personally invest millions into improving the lives of PG county citizens and most people won't give a damn
