Redskins still hate Dallas

This was predictable, but when I posted the other day how Dexter Manley and Darryl Grant still hate Dallas, out came the comments about how those were the good old days when real men knew how to hate The Star, when winning was more important than making a few bucks, when various organs would be left on the field, etc.

And maybe so. Certainly those guys won a lot of games, and certainly they helped elevate the rivalry to the point that it would star in strange athletic ad campaigns, as seen above. But I figured it was worth pointing out that there are plenty of current Redskins who at least know how to hate the Cowboys. For example:

"I've been playing against them for so long, it's pretty much the same emotion every time: you hate em, period," Mike Sellers told CSN's Kelli Johnson. "If you have to get up for this game, then you're not a Redskin."

"Every guy looks forward to this week, all the fans look forward to this week," Phillip Daniels said. "Fans always say, if you don't win no other game, win this one."

"You see, I'm from Houston," explained Brian Orakpo, who knows how to play the game. "Houston and Dallas, we don't like each other man. I don't know if y'all know that, but we hate each other."

"It's just one of those weeks, man," Santana Moss said. "Dallas game, no matter if we was both under .500, it's gonna be a game to watch."

And then, of course, there was Fred Smoot's rant from last year, which I'll repeat from now 'til the end of time.

"We hate Dallas," Smoot said. "We hate Dallas. It's just been like that, and it's always gonna be like that. I got family members that love Dallas so I don't even talk to them during the week. That's just what it is. I literally don't talk to them....You know, I was in that Mississippi [State]-Ole Miss hatred battle, and once I got here and Darrell Green kind of sat me down and said look here, this is how it is, this is your Ole Miss now. And I kind of bought into it....I can be around the players off the field and stuff, but when it's time, it's time. Usually I'm one of the guys that come out early before the game to talk to players that I know off the other team. I never do that against Dallas. Ever. Never."

And here's someone who probably won't be part of this rivalry any time soon: Montgomery County's own Darnell Dockett. He was asked on Twitter about the possibility of playing for the Skins; "H to the E to the double LL NOOOO!" was his reply. Not sure what that's about.

Also, Chris Cooley seems to have died his hair black. See, Dallas Week does strange things to you, even if you're not playing. Enjoy, everyone.

Yep - Redskins still hate Dallas, but the sign ban lives on. I attended the Beat Dallas pep rally on Friday night at a local restaurant/watering hole. Mr. Snyder's radio station was having a sign contest. Best sign won free tix to the Monday Night Dallas game. Mine was on theme:

Dallas Sucks
Dallas helmet with universal "No Sign"
Vinny with universal "No Sign"
Fire Vinny
Hire a GM
Beat Dallas - in 2011

Was not allowed to enter it into the contest. Was not allowed to take it into the room. But... had a copy of the Landry with a target picture in my pocket. Scrawled "Beat Dallas" on the bottom, and was allowed to compete (but think my "Fire Vinny" shirt helped me be the first competitor to be eliminated.

Dan - I'll stop when you give the grandma you sued free tix, invite the soldier's wife you took the sign from into the owner's box, and at least reassign Vinny and hire a GM.

Why Dallas plays on artificial turf?

They got tired of their players smoking the grass and sniffing the lines.
